From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 5/14/2006 at 4:48:20 PM ET OK, Karen, I'll have to reserve judgement on the "rancid" (I love that word!) material until I see the show ... oh, I can't wait now! I'll check Limewire to see if anyone has put it up yet.
Sister Rose, Dame Judi appeared in another long running British televison sit-com way back 1980-1983 (while still maintaining her stage & film career). It was called "A Fine Romance" and is so very funny. If you haven't seen it - look out for it in the schedules - it's very different from As Time Goes By. She even sang the title song.
Badly.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

From: NYC | posted: 5/14/2006 at 5:04:47 PM ET Oh yes Scottie - I have seen "A Fine Romance" as well and I love it. I'm a connoisseur of many of the Britcoms, thanks to PBS and BBC America. When I went to London for the first time, one of the things I looked forward to was checking out local television - imagine my disappointment to find mostly American crapcoms.

It is truly wicked, evil, in the worst possible taste - and supremely funny.

| posted: 5/14/2006 at 8:07:21 PM ET I disagree about television shows only getting one chance to get something right. Aren't they the ones with the ability to cut and re-shoot?
What it comes down to is bad writing, followed by bad direction and Producers who either don't care anymore, or don't know a bad end result when they see it.
Sitcom acting is one of the most difficult art forms (or so I've read and heard from those that have done it). I never place all of the blame upon the actors in these shows.
Yes to the Meryl Streep comment; and also...Barbra Streisand? I can't even begin to imagine how that would have gone.

Once you reach 11 pages, you seem to need 2 instead of 1 post to open the next page. Otherwise the next post just sits on top of the "post reply" page and isn't actually visible on the thread.

From: London | posted: 5/15/2006 at 3:17:45 AM ET HELLO! yes I realise you probably AREN'T like the stereotypes on TV but i just remember reading somewhere that Roseanne was meant to be the most accurate or something - no offence intended!
Crapcoms! Thats classic! If your looking for perhaps the BEST comedy in my opinion try Peep Show. Its the one thing on tv that makes me laugh really loudly by myself!
they say bernadette's wonderful..........and she is
