Bernadette's Concert in Indianapolis' Historic Hilbert Circle Theatre was a sell out and a crowd pleaser. This was my first concert and what a delight. She engaged the audience in such a charming way. There was an excellent write up in the Indianapolis Star this AM. I am sure it may accessed on the web.
Any way it was A GRAND NIGHT for Singing with Bernadette for all.

What a wonderful evening! This was my 2nd Bernadette concert and it was probably my favorite! (I'll get to that in a minute)

The evening began with a peformance by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. They played about 5 numbers; all from Broadway shows. The first act ended with the symphony playing, appropriatly, the overture to George M.

After intermission, the 2nd act was FINALLY getting underway! Talk about suspense!

Marvin came out and lead the orchestra in an overture of about 6 or 7 R&H songs that Bernadette would be singing. After the overture ended, the first hummed notes at the beginning of "It's a Grand Night for Singing" were heard from off stage. Finally, the ever-popular booming voice came over the speakers and announced: "Ladies and Gentlemen, Ms. Bernadette Peters!" Unfortunately, I was the only one who gave her a standing ovation, but I honestly didn't care. I waved at her and she actually waved back! What a way to start out the show!

The rest of the night's musical selections included:

So Far
The Gentleman is a Dope
Some Enchanted Evening
I Whistle a Happy Tune
It Might as Well be Spring
Mister Snow
Something Good
There's Nothin Like a Dame
What's the Use of Wonderin
This Nearly was Mine
Something Wonderful
I Haven't Got a Worry in the World
Hello Young Lovers
and You'll Never Walk Alone for the encore.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed her! They especially loved "...Dame". That really brought the house down. They were a bit timid at first (the audience), but she quickly won them over and earned a very energetic standing ovation at the end.

As far as her voice went.... well, it was impeccable!!!! Utterly flawless!

A few personal things that happened that I thought were funny (and some that were not):

At one point in the concert, the woman behind me whispered quite loudly to the woman next to her, "She needs to get a haircut!" Hysterical laughter!

I am a bit over the top when it comes to my cheering during the applause. However, it is not at ALL inappropriate or obscene. It must have been too much for the elderly gentleman in front of me because I was given many nasty looks from him throughout the evening. I didn't let it bother me, though. I paid $65 for my ticket and I can cheer as LOUD AS I WANT!

Finally, the best part of the evening. I was afraid that this concert would be a repeat of this past summer's Interlochen concert, and that I would not be able to meet Bernadette after the show. Thankfully, that wasn't the case!

I had never met Bernadette before and was absolutely awe-struck when she came out. I had sent a card to the stage door before the concert for her and she must have read it!

When she came out, I was the first person she came to and she said, "So you drove 6 hours to see me?!?" (I had mentioned that in the card). "Oh my gosh, yes! I did". She then picked up my poster and signed it: "To JEFF!!!" I didn't even tell her my name! I couldn't believe it! She was so kind and I said the usual, "I love you, you are incredible" Blah blah blah. I even asked her for a hug and she gave me one!

As the limo was pulling away, I yelled to her, "Bye Bernadette! I love you", and she replied, "Bye Jeff!"

"SHE KNOWS MY NAME!!!!!!!" I shouted!! It was an experience that I will not soon forget, that's for sure!

I took about 14 pictures and I will send them to Kevin and hopefully they will be able to be posted.

Anyway, that was my night! We ended up getting back home (Michigan) at 5:30, but the long drive was well worth it. What a memorable night! I can now say that I am one of the priveleged people that have met Bernadette Peters!!!

I am truly a happier person because of Bernadette Peters

That is soooo nice that she knew your name before you could tell her (LOL it would have been really bad if she thought you were someone else and put their name on your poster......good thing she didn't).
How did she know it was you that sent the card? Did you mention it to her when she came outside?
I can't wait to see your pictues.
