As Moljul said, the article is “peppered with inaccuracies.” His assessments are off, (did Peters really make “her name appearing in Sondheim shows?”) and he can’t even get basic facts right – ITW opened in 1987. However, if they have gone back to an earlier version, who knows what the Mother’s role was or is now like, assuming she’s actually playing the Mother. There was no Nellie in the Mendes directed workshop production. Hal Prince seems to have been the one who wanted some “girls. I think he even said that he actually got to say that old line, “where are the girls” after seeing the workshop. And if it is more like vaudeville sketches, it might not matter what age people really are. Or it's what you are all saying. It's just a reading, no expectations or commitments, just two friends helping each other out.

Well, shoot, with this show? Who hasn't been associated with Wise Guys/Gold/Bounce?
(Or was it Gold/Wise Guys/Bounce? I don't know.)
(Heh-I accidentally typed Wise Goys instead of Guys and had to change it. Now there's your Broadway show!)
Well, I just read Miss Sarah's blog and I must say, the thought of Angela Lansbury and Bernadette in A Little Night Music...I think my head is about to 'splode from the mere possibility.
Wishful casting and all that. Why the heck am I not a bazillionaire?
Believe me, things would be different! But nobody asks me.

I just hope it was a smashing success and the potential investors/backers are lining up with their checkbooks at the ready.

From: northern VA | posted: 2/6/2006 at 11:16:17 PM ET The suspense! The intrigue! Just what did happen at the Public this February 6th, 2006?! What will happen? Does Bounce have a future? With whom?
I want the gory details.
(Yes, I know it was private audience only for a reason. No need to lecture. And, yes, I know it was only a reading.)

From: northern VA | posted: 2/7/2006 at 8:41:53 AM ET Some folks have posted at ATC (thanks to Sister Rose for getting the ball rolling). Don't go expecting a whole lot of detail.
I guess they're keeping the title for now. The title is too short. A show needs a title that fans and those in the know can shorten. It makes things more fun.
So call it Les Mizners.

From: Rhode Island | posted: 2/9/2006 at 7:26:55 AM ET Hey everyone - someone posted this over at ATC about the Bounce reading.. now I only wish something would materialize out of it!
"Bernadette looks fantastic, sang beautifully, sweet vulnerability with great heart, humor. Could not be better. Seriously.
However, I don't see how she could be cast as the mother of Richard Kind. She looks too young and beautiful (no offense to Richard Kind, who is amazing). I get the feeling she was just there to help out on the reading. It was so great to see her."

From: northern VA | posted: 2/9/2006 at 9:36:43 AM ET Unfortunately, I think that's about right. As wonderful as it would be to have her in another Sondheim show... this might not be it. The mother is the only major female character, now that Nellie has been completely cut.

Registered: 6/26/2003 | posted: 7/1/2007 at 1:44:26 PM ET I wonder what the roles are like now and if the Nellie character, not in the original workshop version, has been dropped. Maybe they can get Hugh Jackman for one of the brothers and Angela Lansbury could be the mother, if there's still a mother. Sadly this could be the last opportunity for anyone to be a part of a new Sondheim musical on Broadway. For that reason alone, I would hope there would be any number of performers interested in the show. If Doyle directs though, it might end up being Raul Esparza and Michael Cerveris. Not exactly the kind of names that give a Sondheim show the sort of boxoffice boost they seem to need. The Sweeney and Company revivals combined earned less than Bernadette's Gypsy. Oh, well a Sondheim show is always something to look forward to.
