From the table of contents, it looks like there's an article in the October 10 edition of People Magazine.

Does anyone know when that issue will be released? I don't buy a lot of magazines and I know the issue date is usually after the release date. Also, about to leave for about a week so I'll be watching news stands even less.

I'm guessing that's the issue that went on sale today?

SECTION: TRAGEDY; Pg. 84

FATAL FLIGHT;
A helicopter crash kills MICHAEL WITTENBERG, the investment adviser who nine years ago convinced actress BERNADETTE PETERS to finally marry

When Bernadette Peters tells the story, her first meeting with Michael Wittenberg always has the kismet-like quality of a Broadway opening scene. There she was in front of her Manhattan apartment building, waiting for her date, when Wittenberg, clad in a tuxedo, walked up and asked, "Are you ready to go?" Laughing, Peters observed that he was missing a button. "I'd sew it on if I had a needle and thread," she said. Wittenberg raced to a tailor shop and found both. She kept her word--then they parted ways. When the button fell off that evening, Wittenberg gave it--and his card--to Peters's doorman. A little over a year later, in July 1996, the pair wed. Asked in 2000 what she couldn't live without, the Broadway star replied simply, "My husband."

On Sept. 26, Peters lost her husband when he was killed in a helicopter crash in Montenegro in southeastern Europe. Wittenberg, 42, an investment adviser, was on a business trip and was one of four people to die in the crash, which may have been caused by the rotor blade striking a power line. The couple's 14-year age difference had been bridged by a mutual passion for animals, theater and each other. "He made me feel safe," Peters, 57, once said, "and I did that for him."

Yup, I just picked up the magazine. My mother took one look at the photo of the mangled helicopter and said, "She'll never be the same."

It really breaks my heart to see those two photos side by side (one being the helicopter, the other being her and Michael so happy).

You know........I love People magazine. I read it weekly. But is the photo of the wreck really necessary? I mean, you know she will see that. So sad. I just hope she can find the strength and comfort to get through this. I know all of our thoughts are with her.

Well its not necessary to show the wreckage but its part of upping the sympathy from the reader. Kind of sick, I know. Anyway, I would say that Bernadette is not reading papers and magazines right now and hopefully family and friends will be sure she doesn't eventually see these types of articles and just save the ones that were kinder visually.

I really hope you're right too. I haven't seen it yet but II think that's the last thing she needs to see right now.

Asked in 2000 what she couldn't live without, the Broadway star replied simply, "My husband."

I went back and looked at the funny, sweet NYPost piece that this quote came from. I had remembered the above answer, but I'd forgotten that she also mentioned him two other times in answer to what some of her favorite things were and what gave her substance.
