I wanted to post this separately, to be sure it doesn't get lost:

Bernadette has decided that if people would like to make donations of any
kind, the 3 chosen charities:
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
BroadwayBarks.com
Standingtall.org, an organization that meant an awful lot to Michael. If you go that site you can see info as well as a small blurb "In Memory."

If you make a donation, make sure to mention his name: Michael Wittenberg.

To summarize the other information previously posted:

Condolence cards can be sent to:

Bernadette Peters
c/o Judy Katz Public Relations
250 W. 57th Street, Ste #2322
New York, NY 10107

Fans are also welcome to express condolences on her website in the guest book or via the CONTACT US if they wish: bernadettepeters.com - she will get them all.

Ann will collect condolence emails and send to Ms. Peters on Friday at noon on behalf of Talkin' Broadway/All That Chat. Email your message to annm@talkinbroadway.com make sure to sign your name or screen name. "

NOTE: I assume we will go ahead with the plans to make a donation to Broadway Barks, with Mandy leading the effort.

I am more than willing to coordinate any donations that people would like to make to Broadway Barks in memory of Michael.

Please make all checks payable to: Mayor's Alliance/Broadway Barks and include in the memo that it is "In Memory of Michael Wittenberg."

Please PM me if you would like to donate and then I can send you my contact information. If you would rather, you can email me at azeller1@hotmail.com.

I will also be sending something to Standing Tall. I had no idea he worked with children with physical disabilities. As a professional who also works with children with disabilities, I feel the need honor his memory there as well.

From Bernadette's official site:

"September 28, 2005 > In Memory of Michael Wittenberg

We are very, very grateful and touched at the outpouring for support for Bernadette after the tragic loss of her husband, Michael Wittenberg.

The Wittenberg Family request that in lieu of flowers, donations should made in memory of Michael to the following three charities:

Standing Tall
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
Broadway Barks

Please feel free to send your condolences via the GUESTBOOK and CONTACT page and we assure you, she will get them."

Some have asked me for a deadline to receive checks if you would like to donate to the group gift. I am thinking that approximatley two weeks is an acceptable amount of time. So, if you would like to donate as a group to Broadway Barks and/or. Standing Tall, please let me know. I'll be taking donations for both through October 14th.

I'm not neglecting BCEFA but most people have expressed a greater interest in donating as a group to the other two charities.

If you are interested in donating individually, here are some links in which to do so:

Broadway Barks: Click on Donations
(For the Broadway Barks website, you can also make an online donation here: Mayor's Alliance
Please make checks out to: Mayor's Alliance/Broadway Barks and include "In Memory of Michael Wittenberg" in the memo.

Standing Tall
Please make checks out to: Standing Tall, Inc. and include "In Memory of Michael Wittenberg" in the memo.

BCEFA: Click on Care Cards for a Memorial Donation

Wow...$500 is incredible...and only from around 5 people. I just wanted to let everyone know whose donated so far how wonderful I think it is that we are all coming together to do this. I'm sure this will mean a lot to Bernadette and Michael's family.

Just a final reminder. If there is anyone else who wishes to donate with the group to either Broadway Barks or Standing Tall, please let me know. The deadline for me to receive checks is this Friday. If you've sent me a check, and your initials are not listed in a previous post, let me know. I won't get mail again till Tuesday (due to the holiday) but will add more initials as more checks come in.

Thanks again everyone!

I'm going to use this space to write the initials of those whose donations I've received so far (that way you'll know I've got it.) I was going to just PM people but in some cases, I don't know screen names. I'll update/edit this daily as I receive my mail.

EDIT: Here, I believe, are our final totals. If you've sent me a check and do not see your intials listed, please let me know ASAP so I know to hold off on sending these checks to each charity.

We raised:

$1,030 for Broadway Barks
$600 for Standing Tall

Our grand total was $1,630 to be donated in memory of Michael.

Thank you all so much. You guys are the best! I know Bernadette, Michael's family and the charities will appreciate these donations greatly.

A big thank you to Mandy for handling the fundraising. I'm sure the donations will be much appreciated.
