What sort of role would you like to see Bernadette play on TV or in a movie that she has never played before?

I can picture her guest-starring as a doctor (on like ER or Scrubs....even though I don't watch Scrubs LOL) for some reason. I just see her as this pettite woman in a white lab coat.....and I really don't know why!

I also think she would be great guest-starring as herself on Will and Grace. Like an episode "Bernadette Peters' Apartment;" in which she hires Grace as her new decorator, and Jack finds out and is totally obsessed with wanting to meet her! LOL

*By the way, I posted a similar, yet different, topic under the Theater section of the board. I meant to place it here....but go respond to that also*

well i think either one would be funny, but will and grace may be better...just to see jack obsessed would be worth it

It is funny that you would bring that up, because I was watching repeats of Will and Grace last week, and the one with Sandra Bernhart was on, and I was thinking about how cool it would be if Bernadette could be on too. As for Scrubs, you should watch that show...it is hysterical! I know this isn't a show, persay, but I have always though she would make an AWESOME Amanda in "The Glass Menagerie"...just my $.02!!!!

I chose and my world was shaken, so what? The choice may have been mistaken...the choosing was not, you have to move on......

That's funny you should mention that. She has stated that she would like to play Amanda in The Glass Menagerie one day.

This would really be a change of pace because it would be very dark and serious (even tragic), but I think a great film could be made of James Ellroy's memoir My Dark Places. Ellroy is the man who wrote the original novel on which the film L.A. Confidential was based. In real life his mother was murdered when he was ten in 1958 and the crime was never solved. I think Bernadette would be great as the mother, it would be nothing like what's she's done before and would provide a huge opportunity to show her (underutilized) acting abilities. I can picture it now with this really seedy, noirish fifties atmosphere. Anyway, I recommend reading the book-it's one of my favorites. Maybe that's why I thought of BP if they ever made a film-favorite book, favorite actor.

Yes, but that was just a couple of scenes that only lasted five or ten minutes and didn't allow for much character development. This would provide a full-length lead role that would be really challenging and completely against type-casting. In the perfect utopia of my imagination, the script would be written by Ellroy himself and the film directed by Martin Scorsese. It would sweep the Oscars and go on to become a noir classic like Chinatown or Out of the Past. Oh well, I can always dream.

SPOILER AHEAD!!!

You kind of see her being killed but not really. A man pulls her behind a bar and you see her screaming and trying to get away from him. You also see the scene from her eyes as she is watching the bus drive away across the street that her son is on. Later you see her hand as she is lying dead in the alley behind the bar but that's about it.

Karen, Your idea sounds wonderful. I would really like to see her stretch in a great movie role. Unfortunately she hasn't had major success in films so she isn't usually offered the big pictures and the prime (and limited) roles for her age. But if it could be done and done well on an indie budget, it could be great. And with Scorsese, they could get a big studio to release it (even if they won't produce it) which would mean a lot of people could see it. I think Impromptu is one of her best film roles but it didn't receive a wide release and so few people were able to see a great movie. But if this did well at a major film festival and then got major studio backing it could be the Oscar sweeping film you are dreaming about. Okay, who here knows Scorsese? Let's get this project going. LOL!
