You know she did this medley of a typical 1930s/40s movie musical she'd watch as a youngster (footlight fever/gee i miss you spitcurl(?) alabama/do the king kong) - well were they written especially for this concert? Also, why was this filmed - she hadn't done THAT many high profile successful musicals or films yet so I'm just curious as to why....
And lastly..the audience don't seem to be responding that much - no laughter can be heard after loads of really funny comments and it makes me feel really sorry for her.

Oh, sorry Jenny. I just saw your post. Somehow I missed it before.

Yeah, Little Miss Nobody was a specialty number written for Bernadette's act. Right at the beginning, she gives the credits. I remember her saying that Blackburn and Keller (I think) wrote it and Walter Painter staged it.

When you ask "why was this filmed" do you mean the concert itself, or that number in particular?

She actually had done a lot of high-profile musicals by then, and a few films, and a ton of television appearances. She was very well-known, in the US at least, for her singing and dancing. Nothing like now, but still definitely famous.

Oh yeah..I guess I'm just thinking that a lot of her films up to then weren't really high profile in the UK! D'oh! I forgot about all her T.V appearances too...yeah she would have been quite well known. That explains why it was filmed.
But don't you think the audience is really unresponsive - you can't hear them laugh at all!
