Yeah, I definitely think Bernadette much prefers performing live to studio recording.

Rose:

"Now Playing" is a recording that Bernadette did in 1981. It was her second solo recording. Some of the songs from "Now Playing" are also on the CD "Bernadette Peters:Bernadette" (1992), except for four. I don't think that "Now Playing" itself was ever made into a CD, but you can buy it at footlight.com as a vinyl record. But, if you have the CD "Bernadette" (1992) you have almost everything.

The cover and back of the "Now Playing" album are 2 beautiful drawings of Bernadette by Vargas.

I'm supposed to be working,so this will have to be a quick post (and they gasp in shock).

I don't know about Anything Goes (will try to find it tonight),but Patti stayed in Evita for just about two years (in fact, she was criticized for staying too long).

Karen,I'm willing to bet that I am missing a few of Bernadette's CDs. I looked at Amazon and her website-if Amazon or her website didn't list it,then I didn't get it (I am surprised that her site doesn't have a discography-that's a given on most performers' sites).. I'm only counting those which I *know* have a recording available for purchase (if not in print, then at least available through other means, such as half.com,Ebay,or other used merchandise sites). So I didn't count the Tammy Faye/Jim Bakker TV show because I didn't know if a recording was commercially available. I didn't include Cinderella because I did not find a recording available. I know there are a few LPs floating around there on Ebay, but I'm not going to count them.

I'll post a list when I'm done with work.

I don't think it was sold in stores, but was available through the mail from the Actors' Fund as a money raiser." --from Karen
Total Who Knows CDs: 1

Because I counted something called Philadelphia Chickens:
"Then there's the 1999 "Carols for a Cure" sold as a fund raiser for BC/EFA, which Jean mentioned. I think it's worth counting. Her rendition of "White Christmas" was lovely--and I don't even care for Christmas music much."--again,Karen

Grand total,more or less: 29

Any glaring errors (Lord,I hope not. I'm pretty sure I have the solo and show Cds accounted for-I hope.)

Edited to add Dress Casual and John Whelan. And Gypsy, because I'm a fool. And added a few more things.

Two of the CDs I believe Jean mentioned that I love are the Mandy Patinkin CD in which Bernadete makes an appearance. I love the chemistry that BP and MP share. I also love the John Whelan CD in which she sings the Irish song. I think I read somewhere that he played at her wedding, and she just fell in love with his music.

Jenn:

OK, I'll say it--add Gypsy to the "shows" section for Bernadette.

And, like Mr. Big, I love the work she does on Flirting with the Edge and Dress Casual--could we include those, also.

As far as the animation, I don't think there is a CD of Anamaniacs, and Bernadette is not on the CD of Anastasia. She doesn't sing in The Land before Time: The Great Longneck Adventure.

I don't know Patti's work, but the list looks good. I wonder if they'll put out a CD of the Candide concert? Maybe after it's on PBS next week we'll know more.

Keep going. Did you stop to eat?

Damn.

I KNEW it.

List has been edited. I must be losing it. What shall I do for my penance?

Actually, the easiest part was the info for Patti and Mandy. Because it's like, there on their websites.

OK-since I included Mandy's audiobooks,I included the animation work. I *thought* there was an Animaniacs CD floating around somewhere, but I'll assume nada. My methodology stinks,I know. Totals have been adjusted accordingly.

Of course,Bernadette has a few out of print single records, but I have no clue. Anyone more knowledgeable is welcome to pipe up.

So....
Bernadette: 22 CDs
Patti: 16 CDs
Mandy: 25 or 20 CDs

But "this" IS her website. I don't care if it's not official, I swear you can get a lot more information here than anywhere else. Despite all the introductory hoopla, her new official site is really no better than her old one. They don't even bother to tell you when she's going to be on television, so really what's the point?

And, Jenn, thank you so much for all your work compiling those lists. You are the sine qua non of this message board (your Catholic references inspired me to throw in a little Latin).

I have the Anastasia soundtrack (don't make fun, after all Ahrens and Flaherty wrote the songs) and she does sing one number "Paris Holds the Key" and the Ruthless CD is missing from the list and although I'm sure it's out of print (cuz who would really want it) is the soundtrack to Forever Young, Forever Free on which she sings the title song.

Yeah, she sings "Unkie's Muncle" at the end of "Ruthless." I didn't mention the "Forever Young..." song because it never made the transition from LP to CD, and I thought we were only doing CDs.

If my last post seemed random, it's because I was responding to some comments that Jenn made, and then edited out, about Bernadette's official site. Sorry if it was confusing.

I think we should try and compile a list of all the recordings she appears on minus anthologies or compiliations whether they are still in print or not just so we can see how much she has actually recorded.

What are the four recordings from the sixties? I know she has talked about the "Wait, Johnny for Me" or whatever that was called.

Speaking of her official website, wasn't there a timeline like thing on there initially? And someone needs to correct the error on there saying that "she received her third Tony Award nomination" for Momma Rose since it was really her seventh nomination. Would and should have been her third win. At least the line about "Schubert" Alley has been removed.
