And although I think he's a nasty little man,I do agree with some of the things he had to say near the end of the interview (especially about the catalogue shows, sensibility of certain shows, and whatnot). Damn him. But he's still thoroughly obnoxious and creepy.

A Supreme Court justice? Can you imagine? The perfect playmate for Clarence Thomas. And he certainly has the David Gest philosophy of life: "people seem to violently disagree with me and hate me but obviously I'm doing something right if they're always talking about me." Glad to hear that children don't like him either. Last comment: "glossy, sheik Tommy Tune production"? Riedel's not responsible for that gaffe, but how did it mangage to get by?

I was thinking that Reidel is a combination of the best qualitlies of Anna Nicole Smith, David Gest and Britanny Spears -- a no-class, repulsively ridiculous, publicity whore. His motives are so transparent that even Liz Smith made fun of him.
It's too bad the interviewer didn't ask him how he thought he could be a lawyer if he can't get basic facts straight like how much a show actually cost to produce, who won Tonys when, or the spelling of characters names.
It's one thing to revel in being a muckracker, but to be lazy, sloppy and disingenuous to boot!

Registered: 3/6/2003 | posted: 10/27/2003 at 9:41:49 PM ET Was it just me, or did it seem like he really has a vendetta against Bernadette? I know he denied early in the interview, but then when you read what he says later about her performance in Gypsy and then the travesty (imho) at the Tony's, he seems to take a certain malicious pleasure at taking shots at her. This interview just verified to me that Riedel is a class a-one jerk.

Registered: 5/3/2002 | posted: 10/28/2003 at 10:54:18 AM ET Oh, I definitely think he has some sort of personal grudge against Bernadette. I don't know what caused it, but it seems overwhelmingly obvious to me that he is carrying out a major vendetta. Some people say that he's just doing his job, but since when do even gossip columnists go around attacking talented, decent, successful performers with outright lies for no apparent reason. There are plenty of celebrities out there that gossip columnists can easily have a field day with, but Bernadette Peters has never been one of them. I don't believe for a minute Riedel's denials that it's personal.

There was speculation that he was quite pissed and saw his chance to get even.

He strikes me as someone who could cling to a pointless grudge for a long, long time.
