It was one of the best Broadway shows ever conceived. And just to clarify my position on this recent production, I love the music, lyrics and story, but not the execution. (no pun intended)

From: NYC | posted: 10/17/2005 at 12:36:02 PM ET Never would I suggest such a thing about any Sondheim musical, much less Sweeney Todd! I love it! Like I said before, I didn't see the original on Broadway, only the taped version of it with Angie and GH but still love it. I'm really referring to current stuff out there - I see it anyway and enjoy it, but its not deep or thought-provoking or anything like that (except for odd musical here and there like Caroline, or Change and The Light in the Piazza).

I know that there is a new message about Sweeney Todd practically every day but tonights performance was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! The audience's reaction was something I haven't experienced since the last performance of Gypsy. The curtain call appaulse lasted for at least a good 5 minutes but the crowd went wild. I was thrilled because most of the people I overheard talking during intermission hadn't seen a production of Sweeney. People must really get it! I am unbeliebably thrilled at the prospect of this porduction having a nice, healthy run.
I also met Patti at the stage door and she was hilarious! She asked us why we thought so many young people were coming to see the show. She then went on to say that she asked Sonhdeim and he said because it has the word 'thriller' in it and poeple probably go expecting to see a horror show. I thought that was just hilarious!
SWEENEY LOVE!
