I was just in NYC a few weeks ago and saw Michael Flatley in "Feet Of Flames" and "The Full Monty". I could go off on many tangents on what was wrong with FOF, but Full Monty was.. ok. I think I had higher expectations.

"If You Ever Leave Me, I'm Going With You"--I don't recommend unless you really LOVE Renee Taylor and Joseph Bologna; "A Thousand Clowns"-surprisingly pleasant, altho' Tom Selleck is not really comfortable on stage; "42 Street"--GO TO THIS ONE!; "Producers"--more of a comedy with music than a musical, with old Mel Brooks schitck; "Follies"--too late to see this one (it was good but not, I think, the definitive Follies); "Stones in His Pockets"- a must see; "Proof"-even tho Mary L. Parker has left the show, I'd still recommend.
I've seen almost all of the musicals, and I plan to see Rocky Horror this coming week.

(I enjoyed Full Monty, altho I thought the music serviceable at best.)

Whew! And, I don't live in New York...

Jean

I already have tickets for Mama Mia and Oklahoma.

I'm hoping to see Stones in His Pockets in September. Last time I was in NYC it was on the TKTS line, so hopefully I can see it for cheap still.

I went to New York recently last month. I saw 42nd street, which was really good. I loved the tap dancing. I also saw Thoroughly Modern Millie which was even better. It had a very unique plot, excellent music, and great dancing numbers. I really wanted to see ITW, but I heard it was not that good compared to the original with Bernadette anyways.

Let's see...I've seen AGYG, Kiss Me Kate, and I saw Rent over the summer-most of it anyway. Came in a little late, but hey...got to sit down for $20. :-P I want to see Thoroughly Modern Millie...a friend of mine saw it and really liked it.

Woah- I didn't even realize this section existed! How fun! Anyway, since August I have been to NYC twice and seen Mamma Mia, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Producers (LOVED all of them!), The Vagina Monolouges, and Oklahoma. I loved EVERYTHING but Millie and Mamma Mia were my favorites. I have seen a million other shows, but those are my most recent

I realize this topic started a while ago, but since Molly re-introduced it LOL I'll tell you guys what I've seen.

Broadway shows still running:
>>>>42nd Street (I saw it when Christine Ebersole was in it)...either way, it's excellent! Probably my favorite next to AGYG.
>>>>Thoroughly Modern Millie...interesting plot/terrific talent.
>>>>Oklahoma...I was mad because Andrea Martin wasn't there that night, but her replacement was good. Patrick Wilson is so hot; it's worth seeing just for him...other than that, it was a little too long.
>>>>Rent...I didn't really like. The actors have great voices, but to me, it didn't seem like a Broadway show. I think you're either a Rent-head or you're not...don't mean to offend anyone.
>>>>Beauty and the Beast (I saw it once in 1996, and again in 2000...when Andrea McArdle was there). Great show!
>>>>The Lion King (I saw it when it first came to Broadway). It's certainly different...very poetic; but beautifully done.
>>>>Into the Woods...I liked the original version better, but it's staged differently which makes it nice; and the scenery is better.
>>>>Chicago....I saw it when Jasmine Guy (from "It's a Different World") was in it. Great story line...I really doubt that the movie will do it justice.

Off-Broadway Shows still running:
>>>>The Prince and the Pauper. I cannot reccomend this enough! It has some of the most talented children I've ever seen...and the adults are great too. You feel like you're part of the show when you're there.
>>>>Forbidden Broadway...a spoof on Broadway shows. I saw it twice so far. It's been running since the early 80's, but I didn't hear about it until a year or 2 ago. I plan to see it at least twice a year until it closes now. They change the show around every couple of months to keep up with the theater scene. It's histerical...any theater buff would really get a kick out of this one!

Broadway and Off-Broadway shows I've seen that are no longer running:
>>>>The Fantastiks (OB)....this was such a great show; I'm glad I got to be a part of theater history by seeing it before it closed. You can get it on video or DVD....Joel Grey is in it.
>>>>Putting It Together.....I saw it with Carol Burnett (Kathie Lee Gifford filled in on Tuesday's, but I didn't see her performance). Also available on DVD. It's a little dull (Production wise), but it has some very memorable songs...& A blooper scene, which I was there for; when Carol's skirt fell down. It was funnier in person.
>>>>Jekyll & Hyde....I liked the story, but I felt it should have been a play, not a musical. Very intense show though.
>>>>The Women...A short-run play. It starred many, many women from TV and movies; I won't even list them there are so many. It was a play (not a musical), and My God did I laugh! This was also taped and aired on PBS...I didn't see it on tv, but I read about it being on.
>>>>Fosse...Interesting. There was absolutely no story plot, but the music, songs, and dancing were excellent! You can get this one on DVD and VHS.
>>>>Cats......I saw when I was really young. It scared me...I was sitting in the front row balcony, and one of the cats came crawling across in front of me. I was like 8 or 9 years old, so I was freaking out! But I remember the set and the costumes and the songs, as if I saw it yesterday! And I've never seen the taped version.
>>>>Elaine Stritch at Liberty. She deserved that TONY! Her show was funny, and also heart warming. She just told her whole story...I never realized what a strong and determined woman she really is.
>>>>Bea Arthur: Just Between Friends. It was good. I really just went to see it because I want to be able to say one day, "I saw Bea Arthur on Broadway." Plus, I love the Golden Girls. I mean, it was a good show, but not TONY worthy material.
>>>>Footloose....I liked it. It was kind of like Rent, but more of a Broadway style. I loved the music and story line.
>>>>Annie Get Your Gun....just saving the best for last
I saw it twice. The first time was the first time it had ever been seen by anyone! I knew that first night that Bernadette would win that TONY.....and I was right! I cried afterwards because I was so happy to have seen it that night...and to see her in it! It was a privelage.

~There might have been other shows, but I can't think of them right now. If I remember, I'll add them.Didn't mean to babble.....I just got bored.

OK, now because I have nothing better to do i'll say what I have seen...(sorry if i'm annoying)...
Thouroughly Modern Millie, which was fantabulous, as I already said...
Into the Woods, which was also wonderful...
Contact, which was good but very confusing to me...
Annie Get Your Gun, which was fantabulous,
Footloose, which was very very good,
::memory lapse::
errr...
Cats, which was awesome, it was also my first show, and I don't remember it too well,
King and I, I don't remember this one too well either,
Beauty and the Beast, I don't remember much, but I think I liked it...
Kiss Me Kate, loved it,
42nd Street, loved it, especially being a tap dancer,
Lion King, which was fantabulous, I loved Scar, don't remember his name, but he was an understudy,
Aida, it was absolutely wonderful,
Sound of Music, I liked it,
Riverdance, it was OK...kind of boring at points...

That's all I can think of...

LOL I forgot, I saw Riverdance too...before it was on Broadway. I saw it at Radio City Music Hall. I was young, and was forced to go. I fell asleep with headphones on to drain out the tapping.

I think I would probably appreciate it more today, & I would want to see it live again. I should get the video. LOL
