Surely every dog owner already knows that their pet empathises with them? I would only have to pretend to sob for a second or two and my dog would shower me with kisses and extra special attention. Whenever I would sigh, she would sigh also. Not only that, but as friends pointed out - I have a peculiar "split" way of sighing, I seem to sigh in two parts, and immediately afterwards so would my dog - in two parts.

Still, I suppose it's nice to know that it's now official that dogs empathise with their human companions. In case you cannot activate the video, it shows a dog in the lab "catching" the yawn of a human.

I just heard about that study on NPR. My own 14 year study that I have conducted in my own home with one test subject concurs completely.
