I first saw Bernadette Peters in Into the Woods, (I didn't realise she was Sophie in Anastasia at the time). I loved her as the witch, she was hilarious and full of sass. Then I borrowed one of her CD's from the library, doing Sondheim at Carnegie Hall. I loved it. I loved her song selection, her spirit and emotion. I finished watching Sunday in the Park with George today, and I'm just in awe of her.
She may not have that clear, pristine quality that Julie Andrews (my no. 1. singer) has, and she's in a whole different kind of belt to Idina Menzel, but I really love her style.
My singing teacher asked me to watch a musical that's like a play, so I can see the dramatic quality of it all, and she is like the personification of the emotion and expression that goes into what she's singing. Like she's not just singing it, she's actually being it. (If that makes sense).
I mean on IMDb it said that "Dot's singing in "We Do Not Belong Together", was dubbed over because she was so overcome with emotion when singing that it was deemed necessary to replace the original performance."

I was shedding a tear in "We Do Not Belong Together" it was an intense number and I actually watched it twice. And when she sang Children will Listen just after Rapunzel died.

She is just a wonderful singer and actress, and I love her!

That is the story of how I came to love Bernadette Peters.
The End.

"Oh, Steeeve." Bernadette Peters at Carnegie Hall

Welcome. We all love her, you'll be at home here.

I think that IMDB has got it slightly off. As I understand it, when SITPWG was taped, Bernadette was ill. She had to record some of her songs over (in the studio, I guess) because of that illness.

I think she said that she had pneumonia.

Will someone else help me out here, I have to run.
