From: northern VA | posted: 8/9/2003 at 12:14:07 PM ET I was listening to A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for a while-it has found some life in regional and community theaters. However,it's difficult to musicalize a beloved novel (especially when you do it not long after it was well received as a movie). The only thing I really dislike about the ATGIB is the little girl who played Francie-you only hear her in one song ("Growing Pains"),and she's so flat it's jarring.
I also play Patti LuPone's "Matters of the Heart" frequently.
Speaking of Patti LuPone-I do love the Anything Goes revival recording (1987,I think). Gosh, that's something I wish I could have seen. I'd love to see the Passion performance as well. Center Stage was on Oxygen the other night (go ahead and laugh-I'm a sucker for those kind of movies. I can't help it. Yes,I know it's a bad movie.),and Donna Murphy is in that (as is Priscilla Lopez!),which made me think of Passion, which reminded me of Patti LuPone's upcoming performance, and I wondered about Patti's take on the score. I need to listen to Passion again-it's been a while.

It's Moonshine Lullaby, but I know what you mean. It's gorgeous. I have to stop whatever I'm doing to listen to that one. Well, heck, whenever BP's voice is heard I gotta stop to listen.
Ya know, she just makes me happy.

My favorite is Sondheim Ect, because it was really my first. But GYPSY will probably steal be my new addiction.
