She was so sweet I was so thrilled that I finally got to meet her on Tuesday and Wednesday! It was the greatest moments of my life! I just got home now and I think I love Bernadette even more now.

From: New York City | posted: 8/7/2003 at 6:25:45 PM ET Thanks, anon! I might just do what you suggested. (Actually, we've got a ton of dog food here because it's just heartbreaking to throw it away. We've still got doggie cookies in a canister on the shelf. It's such a hard process, getting over the death of an animal.)
I'm also intrigued by these "no kill" shelters (I figured I'd donate some money to Broadway Barks because these were the kinds of shelters they supported.) I don't think Florida currently has any.
How good for you that you were able to adopt a new animal! What did you name it??

Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.

From Internet Network: 165.247.37.x | posted: 8/7/2003 at 11:45:32 PM ET Hi- I'm one of the Broadway Barks organizers. I saw this message and thoought I might be able to give some information. First- the money raised by Broadway Barks is distributed among the participating shelters. This year we were very successful and actually 25 shelters received funds from the event- the 23 participating shelters/rescue groups as well as the 2 groups we honored. If you are interested in making a donation- it will go to one of our shelters/rescue groups. You could pick a group from our website and then just mail them a check directly and notate that it is by way of Broadway Barks or you can send an e-mail to the Broadway Barks website- I am the person who answers all the e-mails and I'll give you further info.l We do have something called a Broadway Barks Booster- for a minimum $5 donation you can have your name , your pet's name(s), or in honor of or in memory of... listed in the Playbill- of course this now wouldn't be until next year for Broadway Barks 6. As for no-kill ahelters in other parts of the country- they do exist. There are rescue groups all over the place- and if they are a reputable group and an official non-profit group they areoften run by volunteers and the money they raise goes to the care of the animals. Well- that's it. Thank you for all your support of Broadway Barks.

It was my first time seeing the show and I was completely blown away, Bernadette was amazing and I was so happy I got to meet her after the show. She took a photograph with me and autographed some things, she was very nice all in all, I can't wait to go back in September and see it again!

From Internet Network: 134.126.30.x | posted: 8/8/2003 at 8:58:28 AM ET Thanks for the reply! UCFGuardgirl. I had some cans of cat food that my finicky cat didn't like and offered them to the local shelter. They were delighted for the donation...
Bernadette mentioned something at "Broadway Barks 5" ??about the mayor declaring NYC a "no-kill" zone or something??? I probably don't have that right at all; I don't remember. But it intrigued me too.
My new dog's name -- thanks for asking -- is Sam (it was Sambo, but I didn't like that, so it's Just Sam). I had a picture of him to show Ms. Peters if I got close enough, but after she signed my Playbill with "Happy Birthday," I thought that was enough to ask. Now I wish I had; she probably would have liked seeing it, especially since she was the catalyst for bringing us together.
BTW, I found "The Jerk" DVD at Costco last night for $11.99. I'd never seen it before, tho it was a movie of my generation.
[Hmm. I really need to come up with a board name. You folks are so nice and I've never done one of these things before. But I take great comfort knowing I'm not alone in my current obsession with this stellar show and this extraordinary performer. No one is alone......]

Registered: 3/10/2001 | posted: 8/8/2003 at 2:05:55 PM ET Yes, the Mayor declared NYC a "no-kill zone" or atleast this is what they're working towards-a day when "no New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament is killed merely because he or she does not have a home". Feral animals with a pretty bad temperament or animals that are just too sick are still put down though. Cities such as Detroit put down thousands of animals a year, particularly because they have such a high occurance of pit fight rings in that city and there's really not much they can do after a pit is trained its whole life to attack and kill. It really all goes back to the responsibility of people. There would be nearly no animals having to be put down if A) people spayed or neutered their animals B) People didn't neglect their animals to the point where they'd be too sick to live on and C) People didn't mistreat their animals and form them into animals that are going to attack other creatures. I know Guliani was pretty receptive to all of this and helped out Bernadette and Mary a lot with their cause. Its good to see this cause hasn't been forgotten with Mayor Bloomberg!

If I had known beforehand that there were so many people going, we could have all had dinner or something. Glad to hear that you had a good time, VeronicaLynn! The show was amazing!

Not only is she making her Broadway debut in Gypsy but she is only 17 years old and understudying a seconday lead role in a legendary show! As much as I enjoyed Jenna's performance, I do hope Kate is on her way to a speedy recovery!
