This review was in the Buffalo Evening News by Liz Smith:
"Tony 2003 had one supremely shattering performance for New York's emotional theater folk.I do mean Bernadette Peters delivering the mother of all renditions of "Rose's Turn" This girl had a lot to prove-to her peers,to potentialtheater ticket buyers,to the fomenters of mean-spirited criticism that marred the opening of this great revival.
Going for the adage, if your going to be a bear,be a grizzly.Bernadette went for broke -with "Gypsy's"final,larynz-bruising number.She nailed it totally,hitting every note and every emotional color.The riotous standing ovation from the audience must have been almost as good as taking the Tony,which she didn't.But she has several others,so what the hay!"
