People Magazine reviewed the new CD (although its not so new anymore) in this week's people. Robert Bakely is on the cover.

they were just saying how bernadette should have done her CD, like improve it (but it is already great), and they were really critizing it. i didnt agree w/ anything they said, as i said before (i think so)

I completely agree. The reviewer basically said she was too "reverential" towards the material-what do they expect, some gimmicky rap version? He also made a completely irrelevant comment about Steve Martin. What does he have to do with it? I got the impression that the reviewer was not really familiar with BP's work or career and didn't have any rapport with show music-a poor choice to write this particular review.

He described Bernadette as "Steve Martin's ex" as though that is all that she is known for. She is probably the dominant musical theatre performer of her generation.Who really cares that she dated some other celebrity twenty five years ago? He also made reference to a scene in the decade old film LA Story which was apropos of absolutely nothing-considering the space limitations he had he should have focussed on the CD at hand. The whole tone was dismissive and disrespectful.

Sounds like it isn't worth getting the magazine for the review, then. If I had to guess, I'd say there is a high chance someone had to review the CD and didn't want to.
