Bernadette has been nominated for an EMMY in the " Outstanding Performer In A Children's Special" category for BOBBIE'S GIRL! I honestly wasn't aware this movie was a children't special...but that's awesome nonetheless!

Interestingly, enough the other actors nominated are:

Ben Foster for BANG BANG YOUR DEAD

Tom Cavanagh for BANG BANG YOUR DEAD

Vanessa Williams for OUR AMERICA

Gregory Hines for THE RED SNEAKERS

It was promoted as one of Showtimes's "Movies For All Ages" or something like that which is their way of saying a family show but I always found that kind of odd as well. Great to know her work is being recognized because I thought she was great.

I swear this will be my last post for a while but I found the nomination list (yes it is Daytime emmys) and I found it interesting that everyone who was nominated in this category were performances on Showtime programs. Funny considering I really don't consider Showtime to be all that much of a family network. But obviously they are putting out some good family shows.

OH- and thanks for BwayBaby for bringing this to our attention! Does anyone think that Bernadette will be able to attend the awards show? (And here we have yet another set-your-VCR awards show.)

I was thinking maybe she could because I thought they were during the day and she would already be in the run of the show but they are live from Radio City Hall at 8 p.m. on a Friday night. So I would say no.

Yes I meant to put DAYTIME EMMY however, this site wouldn't load again and I had to get back to work so I couldn't edit my board.

The EMMYS are Friday May 16th @ 8pm so she'll already be in Gypsy by that point...however, I don't know...maybe this category will be one in which they present at another time( before the live telecast). I went to the DAYTIME EMMYS about 4 years ago at Radio City but I don't really remember if they did them ALL that night. Then again, the EMMY site states that this is the first year the EMMYS will be 3 hours long so they may just do them all that night. Either way, it'd be nice if she won

Here's a thought to chew on: is Bobbie's Girl eligible for a regular (or whatever it's called) Emmy? And would that also mean that Bernadette could be eligible for an Emmy (I guess as actress in a TV movie) nomination?

I originally thought that Bobbie's Girl would have been considered a Primetime movie, so who knows what they'll do when those Emmy nominees are announced

I don't think it falls into the category of "TV movies" because even though it was not in theatres, it was shown on Showtime (not a regular non-cable network)...but I don't know.

Actually all cable movies are eligible for tv-movie emmys even if they are on premium channels. It's actually an interesting question, whether it would be eligible for the Prime Time Emmys. From what I read on the Daytime Emmy site, shows that are shown before 5 p.m. are eligible for Daytime Emmys. Now I do believe Bobbie's Girl premiered at 8 p.m. on Showtime which made me think it would be up for Prime Time Emmys - that is until it was nominated for a Daytime. I'm sure the movie was shown during the day time on several occasions and maybe the fact that is was part of their "family movies" made it eligible. Maybe they thought it had a better chance of winning against other children's programming instead of other grittier tv-movies. I wonder if they had to pick one emmy or another or if it could qualify for both. I guess we will have to wait and see. It seems the prime time emmy noms are announced sometime in the summer.

Well, Playbill.com finally put up an article about it...

------------------------------

"By Andrew Gans

Two Into the Woods witches, Bernadette Peters (the original) and Vanessa Williams (the revival) have been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s Special.

Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones and Joy Behar, the co-hosts of ABC’s "The View,” announced the 30th Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations live March 12. Peters was nominated for her work as Bailey Lewis in the Showtime drama “Bobbie’s Girl,” and Williams was nominated for her performance as Sandra Williams in another Showtime special, “Our America.” Other nominees in the category include Ben Foster and Tom Cavanagh, both for “Bang Bang You’re Dead,” and Gregory Hines for “The Red Sneakers.”

Actress-singer Bernadette Peters is currently in rehearsals to play Rose in the much-anticipated revival of Gypsy, which begins previews March 31 at the Shubert Theatre. Peters won Tony Awards for her performances in Song & Dance and Annie Get Your Gun, and she has also starred on Broadway in Mack & Mabel, On the Town, Sunday in the Park with George, The Goodbye Girl and the original production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. Peters was recently inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame where she sang selections from her newest CD, the Grammy-nominated "Bernadette Peters Loves Rodgers & Hammerstein." Her numerous screen credits include an Emmy-nominated turn on "Ally McBeal," a Golden Globe-winning performance in "Pennies from Heaven" and roles in "The Jerk," "Silent Movie," "Bobbie's Girl," "Pink Cadillac" and "The Last Mile." She will also be seen in the upcoming Michael Douglas film "It Runs in the Family.”

Vanessa Williams received a Tony nomination last season for her work in the Tony-winning revival of Into the Woods. Her other Broadway credits include Kiss of the Spider Woman and the City Center Encores! presentation of St. Louis Woman. On screen, Williams has had feature roles in "Soul Food," "Eraser," "Dance With Me," "Shaft," "Bye Bye Birdie," "The Odyssey" and "The Courage to Love." The actress is currently in development for a new NBC sitcom about a Broadway actress who returns to her hometown to teach drama in the local high school.

The 30th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on ABC May 16, 8-11 PM ET. Check local listings."
