Here's a cute little interview Bernadette did about dogs. I don't remember ever seeing her mention her seeing a dog get hit by a car... How sad and traumatizing!

Bernadette Peters: Superstar to Humans, Superhero to Dogs

Apparently, there is to be another installment of this interview. I can't wait!

How do you like them egg rolls, Mr. Goldstone?

Part 2 of the interview (in which we meet and see her new boy, Charlie):

Part 2

Added on May 9:

"Q--Previously, you mentioned that you had to get a companion for Stella when Kramer passed away. How did that come about?
A--“I was doing a concert in Texas, and heard about this shelter in Amarillo. I went over and saw this sweet little six month old puppy. I saw Charlie and he reminded me so much of Kramer. We drove him home from Texas, and I hopped on a flight for the last part of the trip to tell Stella. When Charlie arrived, Stella was telling him, “And don’t think you’re going to sleep in my bed!’ Then the very next day, the two of them were best pals and kissing,” says Peters."

Fifth -- and final-- installment.

A few interesting questions and answers:

"Q:You are a very busy working actress and philanthropist. What is the toughest part of spending time away from your dogs?
A:'Oh it’s terrible. I don’t like to be gone for more than a week.'

Q:You have starred on Broadway, TV, and the movies. Do you have any memorable experiences of working with dogs?
A:'In the movie ‘The Jerk,’ there was a dog named S**thead. They kept trying to get the dog to speak by flashing their hands at him, and he wouldn’t bark. I went home that night and did the same thing to my poodle Rocco, and he barked right away, so S**thead really was a s**thead,' laughs Peters.

Q:What’s the best part of having dogs in your life?
A:'Dogs are here for us, they are our companions. My friend Fran Drescher likes to say that dogs’ short lives actually teach us we can love again,” says Peters, “A man says I love myself, a dog says I am myself. I call that integrity. Our dogs don’t judge themselves. They just say ‘here I am.’ I call that being one with self.'
