I can't tell much of anything from the way the trailer looks on my computer. Of course having it download in 5 second increments may have something to do with that. However one of my DVD players is supposed to play discs from all regions. Might be a good time to test that claim. If they spent any money on the DVD release, maybe there will be language options. Of course that won't help if they dubbed Bernadette.

Yahoo Italia Cinema (who knew such a thing existed!) has more photos from the film and a nice one of BP. http://it.movies.yahoo.com/c/come-le-formiche/index-1843687.html

F. Murray Abraham is playing the 60 year old father of the two ladies so unless Abraham speaks Italian, I don't know why he would have been hired. Bernadette is playing, if I'm deciphering the Google translator correctly, a wealthy 50 year old Italian-American from Brooklyn so except for the Brooklyn part, she's perfectly cast. I assumed most of her scenes would be in English with Abraham and that he would speak English with an Italian accent and they could just subtitle those scenes for the Italian audience and that's why they hired an American actress.

Interesting to note that F. Murray Abraham is the son of an Italian American mother and a Syrian father, possibly he does speak Italian.

Until the DVD shows up on Amazon or the like ... here is the email address of the production studio: info@studiovezzoli.com
... and for people like myself who don't speak Italian, here's an Italian translation of "Can you please tell me where I can buy the DVD Comme le Formiche - Wine and Kisses" ...

Salve,

Per favore, me dite dove posso comprare "Comme le Formiche" (Wine and Kisses in ingelese)?

grazie mille.

PTM, I think I came across the same site you did a few days ago - with the trailer that loaded 5 seconds at a time. The nice thing about it was that it forced me to watch the trailer in slow motion and I was able to take a lot more of it in while not being distracted by a language I didn't understand. And I've come to the conclusion that this might be a very nice movie. It seems to be the story of two sisters (who were always very different and seem to kind of annoy one another) who come together and find a common bond in saving their family's business - the winery. Their father has been widowed for many years and has drawn inward and tries to find solace in his painting giving him no interest in the family business (running it or saving it). It seems Bernadette is this rich American who has come to buy the winery (and I think the idea is that she is going to develop something else on the site which upsets the sisters even more). Over time, the two sisters start to work together better, appreciate one another, grown closer, Bernadette's character starts to appreciate the winery as a winery and a relationship obviously starts with the father enabling him to have romantic feelings for the first time since his wife's death.

If you watch the trailer and mute the sound I think you'll find the scene where they say Bernadette and F. Murrah Abraham's name must be quite funny - typical Bernadette frenzied comedy. She runs up to him explaining she saw something very large (hence her hand gesture). I'm guessing it might have been an ant or some other such bug and he kind of dismisses her because its typical for the property/region. But while they are announcing his name, if you watch Bernadette, you'll see she continues to go on about this awful thing. I don't know, I just found the scene (without sound and that awful dubbing) to be pretty funny.

Well that's what I discovered looking at several websites using the translation option that Google gives you.

It does sound like a nice movie-I'd like to see it. I just hope a non-dubbed version will be available.

An update on Come le Formiche's DVD release.... I tracked down the Italian production company of this film and asked them if they could provide me with the ordering information for the DVD. I was amused to receive a rather suspicious reply asking me to fully identify myself and to specify my interest in their film. ..... Blimey! I only want to buy the bloomin' thing!

Now that they've (presumably) passed my personal details to the Italian Secret Service and have double checked my credentials with British Intelligence at MI5's headquarters here in London -- I am glad to say that they've finally divulged the name of the company who will release the DVD and have given me the website details where we can place orders for the movie.

The DVD will now be released in October by Mondo Home Entertainment and will available to order from here

as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

Scottie, they came to me for a security reference but I SWEAR I didn't tell them about the 4 people you had killed or your part in the conspiracy to blow up Vatican City. Really!

Thanks for all your investigating. So now we have to wait until October to get any more info on this film.

Those four people had it coming! I think we can all agree on that.

I could have walked to Italy a couple of times while waiting for my DVD of this film to arrive. I'm still waiting. Will it turn up in time for ?

Will it turn up when I'm ?

At this rate it may not turn up until I'm keeping company with the
Or, worse case scenario, when I'm with the

Tell me about it! It's one of those foreign European films, so they might even have used a body double for all of Bernadette's scenes!

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how you might go about paying for things on that site from the US (because of the different currency)?

Try them. Although they are asking for currency in Euros, the site accepted my British (£) Pound ok. Surely they would take your US ($) Dollar? ... But come to think of it, the British Pound is worth a helluva lot more than the American Dollar and the Euro.

Maybe I've paid too much.
