| posted: 2/18/2007 at 10:09:34 AM ET That song was recorded by a few other artists about that time, too. In Britain a young singer named Karen Young had a fairly successful record with that song in 1965. Her version is very common and can be found pretty easily today. It was recorded again in the US by Patti Page and issued as a single (uh, or a similar singer, I could be wrong about Patti!).
Bernadette's version is very easy to pick out, though. The "kick off your shoes" bit is a very Bernadette-esque moment!

I think it's the specially extended 12"/ limited edition/ remastered/ red vinyl/ picture sleeve/ bonus track/ disco version. (oops, I'm showing my age!)
Colrodia, thanks so much for letting me hear this great Bernadette 45 without all the clicks and pops and scratches that I'm used to with my copy of the record.
This sounds like it may come from the Northern Soul CD that is often available on eBay UK which includes this Bernadette track. They must have gotten hold of the original master.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

But, seriously, it is great to hear it with such good sound quality. And I love the full ending. I wish ABC/Paramount hadn't cut it off like that. Thanks, Colrodia!

if this is in 1965....
Bernadette's voice is like a grown-up.
(1965... she was 16~17. right?)
I'm 17 years old now!-_-;;
You gotta be a original.
Because if you're like someone else,
What do they need you for?

You're right, she did have an astonishingly mature voice, as well as one that's immediately recognizable as essentially her adult voice and style. But, you could say the same with early recordings of Judy Garland or Barbra Streisand or any of the great vocalists. Pretty impressive, though.

| posted: 2/19/2007 at 6:47:14 PM ET Wow, I just listened to that MP3 and the ending kind of blew my mind! Also interesting is that the speed/pitch is a bit different - it was not unusual in those days for 45RPM singles to be cut a little faster.

From: Edinburgh, Scotland | posted: 2/19/2007 at 6:57:44 PM ET I noticed the speed/pitch thing too, and I think it's all the better for that. It makes Bernadette's voice sound even more Bernadette-ish, if you know what I mean. It's a real foot tapper and sounds really fresh in this version.
I also find it pretty amazing to think that this Bernadette song may well be playing in Northern Soul clubs up and down the UK this very evening.
Not bad for something that was recorded over 40 years ago.
as Bernadette says....just keep moving on.....

Bernadette has beautiful God-given talent, but is not in the same league as Garland and Streisand and never will be!
