I have been in Italy on business for the last several months and we just got the news here. Once I saw the news online, I ran to a local Internet Cafe to post to this site.

Bernadette is well-loved in Italy...many of my friends here have her albums and consider her one of the greatest American performers. They, too, are saddened by this tragic news.

My thoughts and prayers are with her as well as her family and Michael's family.

I am so saddened by this... I can't even express it properly. Bernadette always spoke so lovingly of Michael and I could just tell from her expression and her tone of voice that they had such a wonderful marriage and such a great life, everything I could wish for such a wonderful, classy, inspirational lady.
This news breaks my heart for her. I definatley would like to contribute to Broadway Barks in Michael's memory, let us know all the developments. I'd like to do anything I could to help Bernadette if only a little tiny bit.

PA Fan and I talked earlier and then I talked to Chip. We all feel so sad. We love Bernadette not only for her talent but because of the kind of human being she is. Without her none of us would have met each other - for which I am eternally grateful. So when we feel like this about somebody, it really hurts.

I did hear back from the Broadway Barks production coordinator. She hadn't even heard the news until receiving my email. She said that anything we would like to donate should be sent directly to her and she will personally send it to Bernadette.

I am going to wait just a bit though to find out if this is where his family wishes for donations to be made. I know that all contributions will be gratefully accepted but I would like to follow Bernadette's wishes with respect to donations. As soon as I find out, I will let you all know.

Michael's death was also mentioned on the Today Show. Regis and Kelly, like the rest of us, were really shocked by the news. And maybe it was just me, but I thought Kelly looked a little teary eyed.

I'm speechless....

Although I haven't written in a while I check this board all the time and I just have to say that I'm glad we all have this forum to express ourselves to people who feel the same. I'm not being very coherent right now...sorry

I still can't believe it.

You either got it, or you aint!

I heard it this morning on the Today Show, and just sat there in absolute shock. My father has always referred to Bernadette as my unofficial God-mother, and I feel like I have lost a member of my family. My thoughts and prayers are with Bernadette and Michael's family and friends... and with all of you, I know you must be feeling the same way I do.

I only just heard. A colleague here at work read it on CNN.com and told me. I was listening to "Into the Woods" on my computer. Just shock, shock.

And wondering: Why? Why does such happen to such a good, wondrous person?? It just isn't fair, and I can't get past that just yet.

The couple did have several full years together. But it should have been more. A sad ending to a love story.

Like all her fans, my heart is full today and my thoughts are with Bernadette.

And an always reminder:
Life is fleeting. Live every moment of being alive. "All we have are moments, memories for storing." Love the ones you love today.

On my way to work this morning I was listening to my iPod and what should the first song be but Bernadette singing "Not A Day Goes By". Now I believe that song is about a relationship that has broken up but god, it was just so powerful and poignant for this situation and she was giving her usual completely emotional performance of it (from the Sondheim Celebration in 1992). I was extremely glad I was wearing large, dark sunglasses as I found myself just welling up with tears. It's strange how the lives of people you really don't know hit you in such a way.

There is quite a nice size article on Michael's death on the inside cover of the NY Daily News. It tells the story of how they met and has a rather large picture of the two of them - the one that seems to be part of a lot of the articles with Bernadette hugging Michael from behind. I was actually quite shocked the paper gave such a large area to this article considering it has nothing to do with the hurricanes or Britney's new baby.

For some reason I very much remember when a link to that picture was first posted on this site - by Jean, I'm sure. Whatever photo site had listed it had it incorrectly labeled as Bernadette Peters and her boyfriend and someone (probably Jean again) commented on how by looking at the picture, one might mistake them for boyfriend and girlfriend, still caught up in the passion of new love. I'm just so sad about this.
