Registered: 8/14/2003 | posted: 7/11/2004 at 9:21:17 AM ET The woman that won the Joel Grey director's chair was standing near me. I felt bad for her because once she went to claim it people wouldn't then let her get back to her original spot. Luckily, she just kept moving and ignored the people yelling at her. I was also near the guy who won the Here Lies Jenny/Tonys DiNapoli package (I think it was that one...if not it was the 42nd street one.)

From: Toronto | posted: 7/11/2004 at 12:05:16 PM ET Mandy,
Yup, that was me in the front with the pink tank top. I was there for a few hours before the show started and it was sooooo hot!!!! Too bad I didn't get to meet you, but as everyone else already mentioned, it would have been impossible to keep my place!!!
Did anyone else feel bad that there were not as many animals as last year?? I realize that it was because of the construction but I remember last year I got there at around 2pm and there were tons of animals at the booths. This year there didn't seem to be as many.....it was really too bad.
I just want to mention that in a weird twist of fate my mom was running a soccer tournament up in Toronto yesterday and she invited the local shelter to showcase their animals there, and completely out of the blue she adopted a 2 month old puppy!!!
You either got it, or you aint!

Congrats on the puppy too!!!

From: Long Island, New York & Boston, | posted: 7/11/2004 at 12:36:54 PM ET I had SO much fun this year at the event, even though I was exhausted from moving heavy boxes when we first set up. I saw Chiquita, bwaybaby, Christine, Chip, and Vallerie. I probably was standing right near you, Mandy, because I was in the front too. (wearing a red tank top and a bway barks pass thing on my neck) I also saw Tony, this HUGE Bernadette fan from the Gypsy cast recording signing.
I did bid on two of the items - a watercolor of a Maltese and Kate (Bliss's) shirt that she got everyone to sign, but I was bidding for the Maltese for a friend, so don't think I'm nuts! lol. I absolutely adore the shirt from Kate and I'm sorry it didn't go up for more money, it was worth a lot more than I paid for it.
I thought the event ran a lot smoother this year than last because the dogs seemed to be a lot calmer. A lot of them loved being the center of attention. I also loved the fact that so many celebrities came out this year to support the event. 37 I believe, it would have been 38 had Idina shown up.
Kristin was hysterical. I was really close to the stage so I think I took some really good photos, but knowing me it will be a good 2 weeks before I drop my film off. I have to say, those Chenoweth fans are very enthusiastic!
Afterwards I was talking with some of the organizers of the event and I believe the amount of money raised was around 80-90 thousand, but don't quote me on that! There should be a bway barks newsletter sometime in the next few days telling us the final amount. Last year 60 thousand was raised and we far surpassed that this year. I don't know how many animals were adopted, but I know ALL of the BARC shelter ones were adopted that were present at the event. Also, thanks to the work of Judy Katz, Entertainment Tonight was present and may have filmed a short segment on the event. The event is defintely becoming more well-known. How many people do you think were there this year? 3,000? It was definitely a lot more than last year.

From: New York City | posted: 7/11/2004 at 3:48:05 PM ET Was fun... the doggies were SOOOO cute. (I want a little white maltese SO badly. I wish I had the money!!) It was indeed great until I got run down by some of the Chenoweth fans who uh... chased her down the street. Do you know how dangerous that is when you have to run to work in the same direction?

Q: Any funny incidents or accidents with Kristin (Chenoweth)?
Norbert Leo Butz: I have this Errol Flynn moment where I swing in on this rope. One night in San Francisco, I let go of the rope and the rest of the actors started cracking up. I turned around and the rope had literally tied around Kristin's head and got caught on her crown and was pulling her off stage. It was like watching Barbie get hung.

From: Maryland | posted: 7/11/2004 at 9:26:07 PM ET She hosted it alone 2 years ago, I think, because Mary Tyler Moore had a scheduling conflict or something like that. I think it's also the first year that Animal Planet really got involved - and actually was there filming the event.
I've been looking at the pictures, and there's a really cute puppy. Is that Leonard? Puppy looks like him a little bit...
Really glad everyone had fun, and that Broadway Barks was a major success for all the animals and shelters involved.

I remember Bernadette saying " Mary can't be here...she got a job!" and then reading a letter from her. Buck Henry and Andrea Martin helped Bernadette out with the hosting that year.

The video is up for sale now on ebay. It is so worth getting. In fact, I've already purchased my copy. So, if you have any interest, go buy it now. I love promoting his work because it's excellent.
