Everyone, go right this minute to ATC and read Stephen Mosher's (The Girlfriends) post on Gypsy's final performance. It is sheer brilliance! This is the man who single-handedly has made it acceptable to be kind, gentle, and positive on ATC (no small accomplishment). What he has to say, is not to be missed!

Yes, I just read it and he perfectly conveys what, I believe, everyone at the Shubert was feeling today.

I wish I could have seen the last show!

I was at the Stagedoor though, in the front left side. In a light blue shirt. I...was the tall boy, lol.

I overheard two of you talking I think.

Okay, first off, THANK YOU PAFan! Secong of all THANK YOU BLISS (For taking a picture with me with my camera phone! It came out great!). I also got a camera phone pic with Bernadette! We saw Sondheim (Noah and I chased him, but I didn't get to shake his hand so I am jealous). And Kevin and his mom are awesome!

There are no words to describe the show. Bernadette's entrance had a huge standing ovation that I thought would never end. For that matter, Bernadette got a standing ovation for virtually every song that didn't end in a blackout! She was better than ever. The whole cast was. I love John Dossett! Kate was crying and it made me cry! The whole day was spectacular. Bliss sends her love to everyone on the board!

I just returned back to PA from the show. After seeing it 5 times, I have to say I was completely impressed and I agree with what everyone else has posted. I have to add that in "Some People", Bernadette was especially even more powerful and dynamic. I was also at the stage door. I was on the left side wearing a black sleeveless top and a black skirt with white dots.
I am so sad it is over!

Moljul -- just adding my thanks to all the others for taking those great shots and your lovely report. Makes me wish someone made a recording, not that anyone of us would ever do anything illegal like that I'm sure. I know I (ahem) never have.

When I went to the opening, I was determined to be at the closing performance, but since I just added a new four-legged friend to my family, the timing was not good, but I really wish I had gone.

So for those who attended both the opening and the closing performances, how do they compare. If you can only do one in the future, which would you do?

Some friends and I were discussing this very thing during intermission. Opening is very exciting and full of nervous anticipation. No one knows how the audience will react. No one knows what the critics will say. Lots of famous people are in the audience.

The final show is an absolute love fest. The audience is filled with family, friends and fans. All there to show their support and love for the cast and the show.

Both nights are full of lots of electricity but I would have to say the closing show wins, hands down.

It seems my album is working again. I actually have the pictures in a second album as well. If you can get into the one that says Gypsy Fi, that one has more descriptions.

Also, I wanted to make something clear to everyone. Just for my peace of mind. Yes, I took pictures during the last scenes of the show but I did not, nor would I ever think to, take these pictures with a flash. I'm lucky that my camera takes good pictures without a flash as long as the subject is well lit. I would never do something so dangerous and extremely distracting to a performer as to use a flash. Sorry I just wanted to get that off my chest.

I'm just posting now because I was absolutely exhausted after last night.

Wow...the energy, the love, everything that went on last night was just amazing. I'm so happy to have been a part of it.

I tried not to cry, but Bliss when I saw you hysterical..it made me cry!

Congratulations to all on a fantastic run!

I too am posting kind of late because I was so tired last night when I returned home. But better late than never lol

Okay so, I got to the Shubert, met up with my friends, got to meet a few board members who were very nice stood in the alley for a while because it was so absolutely beautiful outside. I Finally went in being filled with both excitement and sadness. I went down the aisle on the right because mine and one of my friends seats were 4th row center, but there was a little incident with a lady and a wheelchair. so, we walked all the way around and went through the other side. Sat down, looked around, saw that we were sitting directly in front of Bernadette's entire family (actually there was one row between us, so they were in the 6th row).

The overture started, the audience cheered, Marvin got a much deserved standing ovation at the end.
As Moljul mentioned, there were many well deserved standing ovations throughout the show. It was very clear that most (if not all) cast members had been crying before the show even started because everyone on that stage had red/watery eyes.

Bernadette gave THE MOST WONDERFUL performance of Some People that I have seen her do...and I've seen the show quite a few times. She was definitely holding back tears during many scenes.

One part that really got to me and made me cry was when Tessie and Agnes are saying goodbye to each other, and Tessie says, "Okay, for the last time..." At that point you just knew it wasn't just acting. Those two ladies had the saddest look in their eyes and sound in their voices. And as they both went to walk off the stage from different angles, they stopped at the same time and gave each other one last look.

Gotta Get A Gimmick was great as always. Kate (Bliss) was definitely trying so hard to not cry. Those ladies really gave it their all. My friend and I were two of the first people to start the standing ovation after that number. I think I must have just bolted to my feet because they were so deserving.

The part that really got me to lose it and have tears streaming down my face was towards the end. Bernadette had to deliver a line and she just couldn't get it out right away. Instead, she put her face in the palms of her hand and began to cry. I was amazed that everyone (especially Bernadette) stayed as composed as they did.
Tammy was on the verge of crying in the dressing room scene. You could hear it in her voice how much she was holding back the tears. Her voice was actually shaking as she said her lines. And when she and Bernadette hugged in the very last scene, right before Bernadette says, "Say, you look like you should speak French", Bernadette was crying into Tammy's shoulder and they just wouldn't let go of each other.

The speech at the end was fantastic. Kate gave a thumbs up when Bernadette mentioned the people who work at the concession stand and bar, so that was very funny. lol

The stage door was packed with people after the show. The cast members were so incredibly sweet and took so much time signing autographs and taking pictures. At one point, John, Bernadette, Heather Lee, and Addison Timlin were all outside at the same time signing and posing. It was so cute. Tammy was the first person outside, and she received such a cheer from everyone. And John Dossett who is just the sweetest guy. He always takes a lot of time with fans, but yesterday, I think he would have stayed there all day. lol

Okay, so here's the most amusing part of my afternoon. I went to use the bathroom during intermission. I attempted to go upstairs because I thought there might be less people. WRONG! I contemplated over and over if I should get off the line because it didn't seem to be moving at all. Finally I gave up and ran down to the basement restroom. Of course the line was still pretty long, but I had to go. I got out just on time to run to my seat, BUT on my way out of the bathroom door I pretty much body-checked Maureen Moore who had been coming out of a backstage area. Oops. I didn't knock her down or anything, so it was all good. lol I just said, "Oh I'm sorry" as I continued to run up the stairs.
My main concern was that I was sitting in the middle of the row, very up front, and I would have felt really stupid climbing over people during the opening of the second act, not to mention blocking Bernadette's family while getting back to the seat.

Okay, wait, it gets better. lol The orchestra was playing, but the second act had not started yet. My friend and I ran (literally ran) down the aisle. I tapped the man on the aisle and said, "Excuse me sir, I'm sorry, I have to get to my seat" and I pointed towards our seats. (Keep in mind I was sort of panting from running around so much). The very nice gentleman smiled and stood up, as did everyone else in the row. I said thank you, pushed my friend into the aisle because she was sitting to my right, we both continued to trip over these people, and we plopped in our seats.
Now, As I had looked at the man's face as I went to my seat, I recognized him. Right as I sat, I turned to my friend and said, "Oh my God! I just tapped Stephen Sondheim on the shoulder and made him get up for us!" To which my friend looked back towards the two men on the aisle, and Mr. Sondheim leaned forward, pointed at us with a big smile on his face, and then he and his friend waved to us.
He must have saw/heard that I realized who he was AFTER I passed him and sat down.

Could you imagine how much more embarrassing it would have been if we did get there late...after the second act started!? I hope he appreciated the fact that we ran back so as not to disturb people once the second act had started. LOL

His sweater was very soft by the way.

Christine, thank you for that report! I love how you all those of us who couldn't go to the last performance informed. Merci beaucoup. How did you know it was Bernadette's family you were sitting in front of? Does she have a well-known fam?

Christine, I was at the show yesterday too and I remember Bernadette putting her face in her hands, but could you remind me of what scene that was. Thanks!
