has bernadette ever made any commercials/adverts? has been the face of a product. if so, whats products?

Well, I think she did an American Express, but I've never seen it. She did some for Breyer's Ice Cream and one for Ocean Spray, and some promo kinda thing for Cinemax in the 90s. She was also in a commercial for Revlon, if I'm remembering correctly. It featured a bunch of well-known people responding to the "what makes a woman special or beautiful or something like that."

She did a promotional commericial for (I think) Biography on A&E. It came out like 2 or 3 years ago (if its even been that long). I remember she was wearing a purple shirt and she was against a white background. It was a commercial that had other celebrities in it, and each one of them had their own little time slot to say something about Biography; they were not in the same shot though.
And, of course there was the Broadway promotional commercial she did with all the show casts and other famous Broadway faces for NYC a few months ago; where they were singing New York, New York.

Going way back to the late sixties, some of the first things I ever saw Bernadette in were TV commercials. Right around the time of Dames at Sea and the first Carol Burnett shows, she did commercials for Pond's face cream and Playtex padded bras. The Pond's commercial had her saying that she used the stuff to make her skin nice and to impress "Marvin." Then she said something like "Marvin's going to marry me. But he doesn't know it yet." The Playtex commercial was a true classic, one of the best and funniest ones ever made. She was a Miss America contestant and her adviser told her to wear this new kind of slightly padded bra--the joke being that she was already so voluptuous that it wasn't necessary. She asked, with a totally hilarious look of worry and dismay, "a sixteenth of an inch?" For several years that was a catch-phrase in my family because it cracked us up so much. I haven't seen these commercials in probably 33 years or so, but I can still remember them--they were that memorable. Wouldn't it be great if somehow all her commercials could be put onto a video?

Yes, it would be nice to see all of these commercials together. Reading the descriptions, and having seen a few myself, it looks like they used her humor and glamour to good effect. (In the cranberry juice commercial, for example, she was wearing a formal black gown.)
One other, kind of obscure one: in August 1999 I got into a taxi in New York, the driver put on a recording, and there was Bernadette telling me to fasten my seat belt!

If she wore a formal black gown in the cranberry juice commercial then maybe there were two of those, because I thought she was wearing a sweater top or something. I think she wears a formal black gown in one of the Breyer's. I'll have to try and find these in my tape collection now.
Also I believe the Museum of Television and Radio in LA and New York has some of the commercials like the Am. Express.

wow, this has certainly sparked some memories! That bra one sounds hilarious. one forgets that apart from being an amazing singer, actor, dancer and animal campaigner, shes just so funny!

Here's a description of the Breyers Ice Cream commercial, courtesy of a book "Deadly Persuasion: The Addictive Power of Advertising" by Jean Kilbourne:
"A television commercial for ice cream features actor Bernadette Peters in slinky pajamas in her kitchen at night. "I love being aughty," she says in her little-girl voice, "especially when I can get away with it. Like with Breyer's light ice cream. It has less fat so I can indulge in sinful fudge...real vanilla." Her voice is rising as she becomes more excited and builds to an orgasmic crescendo -- "Mmmm, pure true taste!" Almost out of breath, she slides down the refrigerator door, saying, "I feel like I'm cheating, but I'm not...what a shame."
Amazing what a "Google" search will turn up!

I saw another Breyer's commerical at the Museum of Television and Radio. I can't remember what exactly was said but I know it was Bernadette in a formal gown surrounded by lots of hunky men in tuxes. Seems like they were all men coming to her apartment for a date or something. :-)
