Yes, Bernadette is a belter, but to say high notes aren't her thing is, I think, inaccurate. People too often, in my opinion, overlook her amazing operetic quality. In some aspects, I think her versatility makes her so appealing, and as for her high notes, she's unafraid to take chances (ie. nothing like a dame) and i admire her for that because it brings something unique to the songs that were never there before.

I don't think it matters so much about her high notes b/c thats never really been her thing. She's not a sopprano she's a belter and that's part of her appeal (in my opinion).

I don't know. The question's not really "can she reach them?" but "can she reach them beautifully?". She used to have a wonderful colour to her high notes ("Later" and "Johanna" from the Sondheim concert, for instance), and now I feel like they're kinda strained. And yes, she has developed her highs over the years, but they sounded better 3 years ago. It's not very surprising, since 50 is the age where our voice begin to drop, but it still makes me very sad

I honestly feel her voice in getting higher or at least she is developing her upper range. Which is strange. While the high notes on her new CD are not her best notes, I don't think she would have attempted them 10 years ago.

Has anyone seen her in concert recently, who could reassure me about the state of her voice? Because as much as I adore her, as a singer myself, I couldn't help wondering, listening to the last CD, if she was not beginning to loose her high notes. I know it would be normal, but I hoped that with the wonderfull technical training she's donne on her voice, she could keep them a little bit longer... Thanks a lot in advance for trying to be objective about it
