Equity principal auditions will be held for the Broadway revival of "Gypsy."Equity Production contract; current miniumum is $1,252. Robert Fox, prod'r; Arthur Laurents, book; Stephen Sondheim, lyrics; Jule Styne, music; Sam Mendes, dir.; Jim Carnahan, casting. Note: Equity principal auditions for children will be held at a later date.

Bernadette Peters is cast in the role of Rose. Seeking--Herbie: the agent turned candy salesman turned agent that devotes his life to Rose's pursuit of show business success, despite constant bullying by Rose, Herbie is a warm, generous man who truly loves Rose and her girls, seeking an actor who sing well;
Louise: 18-23 to play 17, an awkward girl with hidden strength who lives quietly in the shadow of her sister, when June elopes, Louise is left to deal with the emotional train wreck that Rose becomes, her chance to shine comes in the form of becoming burlesque star stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, seeking a young actress who possesses strength and innocence, a fantastic singer with a strong belt and pretty mix, who can move extremely well;
June: 18-23 to play 17, Rose's daughter who is also her obsession, a moderately talented performer who recognizes her mother's damaging obsession when she is offered a chance to work with a producer who would make her a star and her mother won't let her go, she destroys her mother when she elopes with Tulsa, seeking a beautiful young singer with a fantastic belt who can dance extremely well; Tulsa: 18-23 to play 17, during the layover between gigs, he develops an act for himself and June, with whom he later elopes, seeking a young man with a fantastic tenor to play 17 who can move extremely well;
Tessie Tura: 30-40, a brassy stripper who helps Rose and her act adjust to the burlesque circuit by offering to have Louise sew her costumes, gives Louise a role model that allows her to blossom into Gypsy Rose Lee, seeking a sexy comedienne with a great belt who moves well;
Pop: 50s, Rose's stingy father who believes in living life as practical as possible, a gruff man who sees life as a glass half-empty, he tells Rose to give up her dreams and face reality, seeking a character actor who sings; Mazeppa: late 20s to mid-30s, a brassy stripper who realizes her place in the world and knows how to capitalize on it, a sexy, curvaceous belter with big presence;
Electra: mid-20s to early 30s, a sexy waif who has been a stripper for too long, her lot in life has been decided and she has accepted her fate, seeking a youngish character belter who moves extremely well;
Uncle Jocko/Goldstone: late 40s-early 50s, a businessman who is a major player in the vaudeville circuit, seeking a character man who sings
