Lives lost,
nothing won.
It is past,
it is done.
Can be fought,
but can’t be won.
Someone gone:
A mother’s son.
We ask “why?”
And nothing’s said.
What’s going on
Inside my head?
How could someone
think this way?
I don’t know,
I cannot say.
I try to understand
their thoughts,
But there’s nothing there,
My mind’s all knots.
I don’t know what to do or say,
So instead I kneel and pray.
I pray for those who lost their lives:
husbands who won’t see their wives.
Little kids with no more “mum”,
Mummy left without her son.
David growing big and tall,
But his dad won’t see it all.
Crying tears, so full of pain.
Will it end, this pouring rain?
Perhaps the storm will start to clear,
If we just start to learn from fear.
Learn that we must get along,
Learn to sing that joyful song.
“Peace and freedom for all kind,
Let’s leave these horrid, dark shadows behind.”
