Image Entertainment to Release Stephen Sondheim's Pulitzer
Prize-Winning 'SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE' on DVD, Laserdisc and
Videocassette
DVD and Laserdisc Editions Contain Exclusive Audio Commentary from
Stephen Sondheim, Director James Lapine and Stars Mandy Patinkin and
Bernadette Peters
CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1999-- Image
Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq/NMS:DISK - news), a leading licensee and
distributor of optical disc programming, today announced the March 23
release of Stephen Sondheim's Pulitzer Prize-winning SUNDAY IN THE
PARK WITH GEORGE on DVD, laserdisc and videocassette through an
agreement with Michael Brandman Productions.

The DVD and laserdisc editions of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE will
be released with an exclusive audio commentary featuring composer
Stephen Sondheim, director James Lapine and the production's two
leads, Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters.

The commentary, the first of its kind for a Broadway production
brought to home video, was recorded last Spring in Manhattan on the
14th anniversary of the show's Broadway opening.

Martin W. Greenwald, Image's president and CEO, stated, ``This is a
first for DVD. The first time a Broadway production has been presented
with the addition of a commentary from all of the key principals.
Getting Stephen Sondheim, James Lapine, Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette
Peters to sit in a room and talk about this theatrical milestone was a
tremendous coup for Image Entertainment. This release represents one
of the most prestigious additions to our ever-growing catalog of fine
music programming.

``Based upon our earlier home video success with Stephen Sondheim's
Into The Woods, we will continue our strategy and explore other
opportunities that allow us to bring Broadway and theatrical
programming to the marketplace,'' Greenwald concluded.

SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE opened on Broadway in 1984. It is a
fictionalized musical account of episodes in the life of 19th century
artist George Seurat, most famous for his painting ``A Sunday
Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.'' The show went on to win
multiple Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

In 1986, most of the original cast were assembled to commit the
production to video. Image is releasing a re-mastered version of this
edition.

Stephen Sondheim, acknowledged as the theater's greatest living
composer, has composed music and lyrics for Company, Follies, A Little
Night Music, Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along,
Into The Woods, Assassins, Passion and others.

James Lapine's other stage credits as a director include Merrily We
Roll Along, Into The Woods, Falsettos, The Diary of Anne Frank and,
most recently, Golden Child.

Mandy Patinkin's other stage credits include The Shadow Box, Evita,
The Winter's Tale, Falsettos and, most recently, Mamaloshen: A Concert
For The Theater.

Bernadette Peters' other stage credits include Gypsy, Dames At Sea,
George M!, Mack and Mabel, Song And Dance, Into The Woods and the
current Broadway revival of Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun.

Image Entertainment, Inc. has exclusive DVD license and distribution
agreements with a number of program suppliers, including Universal,
Orion and Playboy. The company is also the largest licensee and
distributor of laserdiscs with the most extensive library of titles in
the industry.

Some of Image's exclusive laserdisc program suppliers include Disney's
Buena Vista Home Video, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment,
Warner Home Video, MGM Home Entertainment, New Line Home Video, Orion
Home Video, The Criterion Collection and Playboy Home Video.
