hi guys, i don't really talk to much because i am in college and get the
e-mail when i have time which isn't that often. i am as big of a
bernadette fan as the rest of you, she is the reason i am an actress. i
saw the annie... song on rosie thins morning, and it was horrible! really
now, i have seen her in everything from sunday when i was very little to
her concert at carnegie hall, and she is better that that!! i felt like i
was watching some bad regional production. i don't know if it is her
fault, but still- the way you were all talking i expected more!!! she is
too sophisticated for the part and the lack of blocking with set ography
for her was akward and just plain bad. if you disagree i am sorry, but
being an educated member of the new york theatre community- i expected
more and was sadly disappointed

Well, I have to disagree... I loved it! I thought it was very cute.
Bernadette and Tom said in the interview afterwards that they purposely didn't
block that song. I think it's great because it gives them the chance to
really have fun and let loose with the song. I think that their improvisation
was very funny. I think that if that song was completely blocked, it would
look too stiff and boring. Just my opinion... we all have different views...

I don't agree that she's too sophisticated for the part. She's an actress and
usually quite a fine one. However, she really misses the mark in this show. I
still haven't figured out if it's a lack of direction or just bad choices -
and I don't know that I want to pay $75 or more to figure it out - but I was
pretty disappointed as well. I've been in touch with some of my friends who
are actors in NYC and they seem to be of the same opinion. That's really too
bad.

So, I was right!!! I think it was a bad idea. It looks unfinished and
unconnected. It is obviously Bernadette and Tom having fun and not Annie and
Frank. They are still supposed to be telling a story and there is conflict
involved. I'm more disappointed in Graciella Danielle than anyone. She is
better than that.

Well guys, I am going to state my opinion and I hope noone gets mad at me
for it (it's happened before), but I agree with Tim.
First off, most anyone who has followed Bernadettes career can tell when
Bernadette is sick, and clearly, today she was.(probably just a cold or
something) so, that takes a little away from the performance, but in regards
to the lack of blocking and her being too sophisticated for the role, I guess
I would disagree. I will admit that when I saw it, it was a little sloppy,
but it was adorable. They obviously were having alot of fun and entertained
the audience. Isn't that what musical theater is about?? entertaining the
audience? I mean, sure, it probably could have been better if every little
step was carefully planned out, but then it wouldn't have that fun, feeling of
not knowing what was next and it might be kind of boring. It would get old
after a while. Plus, I am sure by the time that the show opens, they will
have a pretty good feel for what the audience likes and bernadette will
hopefully not be under the weather.
Also, I dont think that Bernadette picks roles that are a certain rank, that
only broadway stars should have, I think she picks what she likes and what
would be the best experience for her. I do agree that she is a very
sophisticated perofrmer, but like I said , it isnt about sophistication.
sorry about the rambling on and on.

Hey Mariette -

That argument doesn't really hold up. It's her job as an actress to make it
look fun every time. And more than likely she finds ways to keep it fresh and
fun for herself, otherwise I doubt she'd still be working after more than 40
years in the business. In fact, not setting the choreography puts the number
in jeopardy on days when the actors aren't at the top of their game.
Improvising relies on how you're feeling at the moment.

This is a tour de force role. I'm sure lots of actresses would kill to play
this part - I know I would!

I for one don't care. I went to the show to see Bernadette Peters, and I was
happy as long as she was on stage. Annie and Frank I can take or leave <g>
