Hello all!

I just saw "Annie Get Your Gun" at the Marquis... and what a show it was! My
seats were excellent: stage left, third row orchestra. This was the first
show that I saw starring Bernadette so I was extremely excited. First of all,
the merchandise sold were black sweatshirts that had "ANNIE GET YOUR GUN
There's no business like show business!" embroidered on; black tee shirts that
had the "AGYG" bullseye; denim shirts that had the same logo as the
sweatshirts; and denim hats with a tan brim that had the same logo as the
sweatshirts as well. I asked the guy when they were getting souvenier books
in and he said that they wouldn't have them until the show officially
opened... :-( However, the playbills now have the picture of Bernadette on
them (I know that when the show was at the Kennedy center the bills had no
pictures.) Now, "let's go on with our show!"

I absolutely adored the show. It's not a show that disappoints. I love the
way that it's set up so that the actors set each scene. Tom Wopat was
amazing... I didn't know he could sing. I was also very pleased with Andrew
Palermo's performance as Tommy Keeler. He's got a great voice and tons of
energy and stage presence. OH, and for those of you that don't know... Marvin
Laird is the musical director for this show and he's dressed up as a native
american. Bernadette was fabulous... Her accent was a bit overpowering at the
beginning (yes, she did say "thar") but I got used to it in no time and she
seemed to get more comfortable with it as the show went on. Hearing her sing
"Moonshine Lullaby" was such a treat and it was definitely a high point in the
show. "I Got The Sun in the Morning" was great as well and the choreography
was very good and interesting.

But the funniest thing happened during the "An Old Fashioned Wedding" number.
It was towards the end when Bernadette's supposed to dance with Tom... and she
accidentally punched him in the nose.... at first, I thought it was part of
the show as a little gag or something, and I think the audience thought so
too... but then Bernadette started giggling as she sang. The audience started
laughing and clapping after the song was over. And being the professionals
that they are... Tom and Bernadette did a little improvising... Tom put his
hands up to shield himself when she turned to him after the song was over...
and then Bernadette walked up to him and kissed him on the nose... it was so
adorable.

This was a rushed review... so I'll write more later...

You know, when I saw the show in D.C. I felt like that entire number was
improvised. It was very fun, but seemed all of sudden like Tom and Bernadette
- not Frank and Annie. Could it be that it's still not "officially" staged?

The nice thing about the Ken Cen was that they had this article in them about
how the show was redone. I thought would have been a nice touch in the NYC
one, but oh well <g> The new things outside were nice, with big poster things
for all the characters (only Dolly was a red head in her poster, and looked a
little like Julie Andrews....) And Tom Wopat got his own pop out poster
thing!!! If I could thought of ANY way to steal those things I really would
have <g>

I got that same impression in DC. It seemed like everyone was just jumping
around and making stuff up (needless to say it what STILL one of my favorite
numbers)
