My friend and I were there at the opening preview performance last night
at the Kennedy Center. We were in the middle of the first row even
though our seats were in row D. Indeed, rows A-C had been removed for
the orchestra.

I'm not going to write a review, just wanted to write down things I noticed.

The orchestra was split into three groups. Two group was on the stage
one on each far side of the stage sitting on what appears to be like
bleachers at a football stadium. The third orchestra group was i n the
orchestra pit. The entire set design is built around the concept of a big-top.
So the actors are in the middle of this big-top.

I have never listened to the AGYG CD with Ethel Merman, and I've never
seen the movie so I can't compare Bernadette's performance to either
actresses. But all I can say is that she was wonderful. She brought humor
to the role, and the audience picked up on it. My favorite song in the
whole musical is "Old-fashioned Wedding" which is a duet between Frank
and Annie, and you could tell Bernadette and Tom Wopat were enjoying
themselves.

Sorry to say, there were no posters or T-shirts or anything available for
purchase. The Stagebill didn't even have the picture of Annie Get Your
Gun on the cover but the Kennedy Center news magazine did for Dec/Jan.
did. I picked up several.

We waited at the stage door, and Bernadette and Tom came out after 30
minutes. There weren't very many people waiting, less than ten. She
quickly signed the Stagebills and quickly walked away. I didn't get my
photograph with her. Oh, well maybe next time.
