I'm new to this group, although I've been a musical theater enthusiast from the age of 8 and a Bernadette fan almost as long.
I like R & H but let me play Devil's Advocate for a moment, and say that it is fluffy and unrealistic, and distasteful to many of the hard-core musical theater lovers. I think one would still have to admit that it is very accessible, and that many of us came to musical theater through them.

In fact, I don't believe the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein needs
Bernadette Peters to "make it work." It works quite well on its own.
