Just went to Bernadette's website and the "hot news" is she has been
nominated for an Emmy for her work on Ally McBeal. I don't know who
else is nominated for Guest actress on comedy, but I hope she wins!

For those who are interested, here's a breakdown. The competition is fierce:
Susan Sarandon's role on "Friends" may have been calculated stunt casting,
but it worked, and she was well-received. The fact that she isn't a shoo-in
tells you what a difficult trophy this is to win this year.
Jean Smart's guest work on "Frasier" is clearly enjoyed by the voters: she
played this character last season, and she WON this award. And if there's
one thing Emmy voters love, it's repeating themselves.
But Cloris Leachman is a proven Emmy favorite (a few years back she picked up
her SEVENTH trophy) whose appearance with fellow nominee Robert Loggia on the
red-hot hit "Malcolm in the Middle" was also critically acclaimed.
Finally, while I don't give Jami Gertz much of a chance to win, her
nomination for "Ally McBeal" may have the unfortunate effect of leaving "Ally
McBeal" fans uncertain of whom to vote for, as Bernadette is also nominated
for "Ally."
At least we don't have to wait until Emmy night to find out who wins, because
the guest acting award winners are announced early, at the technical Emmys.
