I've been listening to "Gypsy" alot recently and I think that
Bernadette would make a great Rose. What roles do you all think
she'd be great in?

I think she'd be great as "Norma Desmond" in "Sunset Boulevard."

BP should play these:

Val in A Chorus Line
Narrator in Joseph
Alice Beane in Titanic
Ms. Lynch in Grease
Nancy in Oliver
Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd
Witch in Wizard of Oz
There are so many but these are all I can think of!

I don't know about the Narrator in "Joesph. . . " I don't think that would
best display her wonderful talents.

I heard they asked her to do Fosca (I don't know what show that name is from.
i think it's from "Sweeny Todd" but I don't know that show so I could be
wrong, in fact, i probably am.) I know it's from a Sondheim show, though.
Anyway, I could see her as a wonderful Mama Rose. She even said once that
she's love to do that role.

This is a really dumb question, but could any of you see her as portraying a
cat in ALW's CATS? Oh, geeze, that would be different!! (I know many of you
don't like the show, but just think about that, weird and strange!)

Fosca was Donna Murphy's role in Sondheim's "Passion." I can kind of see her
in that... although physically she would be more suited for Clara, and in fact
sang Clara's "Happiness" on "Sondheim Etc."

I've always wanted to see her do something on Frasier. Other stuff, too, but
i can't think of it all right now. She made a better stepmom than Anjelica
Huston!

I could see her doing Grizabella - maybe even Jenny Annie-Dots (the tap-
dancing cat) - but the rest of the cats need to be REALLY good dancers.

I think it may have been Clara that there was talk of her doing. Fosca's
range is VERY low. I know there are those that disagree, but I think
Bernadette has a much more soprano quality to her voice. Not dark enough for
Fosca - much more suited to Clara.

The ones you said she would have to be desperate for work for were meant to
be something I could see her in if she ever decided to do some really good
charachter roles. But you are right shew would have to be desperate.

She never said she regretted not doing it, she said it wasn't a good time for
her to go over there and so she just couldn't do it, and this is to Ben who
thought she would be good for Clara, she was asked to play Fosca.

That message may have seemed a little harsh, but please don'tt ake it as that,
I didn't mean for it to come out like that. I just had to get this info
across to you all.

Sorry if i sound harsh,

I'm gonna get flamed, but I just don't see it. Rose is tough as nails.
Bernadette Peters has a vulnerability about her that will always endear her to
the audience. That would be completely inappropriate for Rose. Bernadette can
sing the hell out of it - no doubt about it. And she would be darling in
things like "You'll Never Get Away From Me" and "Together Wherever We Go."
She has the passion for "Some People" and "Mr. Goldstone." But I can't see
her doing "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and "Rose's Turn." I hope to be
proven wrong someday - it would be a fascinating challenge for her - but I
think she's just little too good-hearted to play such a selfish woman (and if
you think Rose isn't a selfish person, you need to read the script again).

At the risk of being (gasp) controversial, I disagree with you. Sure,
Bernadette has a vunerability about her, but there is a determination to
her that would MAKE the part. She is not only sensitive, but sassy,
mischevious, scheming and courageous. Looking at the roles she has taken
in the past, I believe she can play just about anyone (within
limits).Besides, who says Rose isn't vunerable...

I'm not truly afraid of you hurting me, for one thing we live on
different continents ;-). I was just exercising my sick, twisted, sad
sense of humour!!-I do like a bit of controversy myself!!You do get alot
