See headers | Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not Annie Get Your Gun could be
nominated for any Tony's this year. Are there any relevant policies?
Also I wanted to thank those of you who talked about watching Into the Woods
on video. I would never have thought about it being available on tape. I
bought it last week and watched it over the weekend..it was awesome! How do
they decide what shows to put on tape, like will AGYG be on tape when their
run is over?
Thanks,
Michelle

I would imagine that it can't. It was nominated for the 1999 Tony's though.
I don't know what the rules are though... :)

Only new shows can be nominated. Shows that open from the day the Tony
noms come out, to one year from that date. AGYG opened March 1999, before
the Tony nominations closed for that year. (I think they close in late
April/early May.) Anything that opened after that is eligible for the 2000
awards. They are held on the first Sunday of every June.
So, in short, no, Annie Get Your Gun will not be nominated for anything.

See headers | sometimes they do, sometimes they don't... a lot of times it's a money thing
(like the release of Cats)...
I THINK the Into The Woods video was originally a PBS special, and was
released on video after it was aired (like the Les Mis 10th anniversary
concert).. so a lot of times that sort of thing is factored in... every year
PBS does a big campeign to raise money, and very often they'll invest in a
major broadway show to air on the station during fundrasing periods...
It's not the case for ALL videos, but alot of musicals have been taped for
PBS. PBS usually offers the videos for sale right on the air, or will throw
it in as a bonus for people who invest in higher up memberships..

............................................................................
A little more info on this:
Every Broadway show (musical and play) is taped and stored for viewing
at the New York Central Library. The tapes Cannot be brought out of the
Library under ANY circumstances.
Money is the main reason for whether a show is taped for broadcast or
not. In order for a show to be broadcast or sold on video, a royalty
has to be paid to every single person involved with the show.
Take care.....David :)

See headers | SWEENEY TODD was recorded on video. It's pretty amazing. Don't know if it was ever shown on PBS. I had to rent it. Seeing Angela Lansbury do that role live is sooooooo incredible. The soundtrack doesn't really do her justice. Well, it kinda does. Anywho, yeah....

See headers | Things get put on video if they've been on television or are a movie. Both ITW and Sunday in the Park With George were on PBS at some point which is why they are on video.
