I totally agree with you on the Bette thing. I've been a huge fan of Bettes'
since I could breathe, and I went to her concert in Detroit in December. It
was amazing. Even if you're not a fan, you should experience the divine
(that wasn't corny at all. . .) at least once in your life. I was sitting on
the floor, and it was possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen. I agree
also with you, that Bette's is more of a "spectacle" than a regular concert.
I think she and Bernadette are so completely different though. Though I love
Bette, I don't think she could hold a candle to Bernadette in a role like
Annie in "Annie Get Your Gun," but I think she did a wonderful job in "The
Rose." I would love to see them together in something, I think they would
complement each other nicely (if they could get through having two divas
onstage! LOL). Oh well, I could go on talking about Bette forever. So I'll
go now.

Did you hear Barbara Streisand got really mad at Bette for spoofing her at
her Las Vegas concert new year's? Bette had a full on impersonator come on
and totally make fun of barbara. I mean, it was all in good taste, but
Barbara reportedly told people she was not thrilled. Bette said on ET that
the impersonator was good looking and it was all done in good taste. (a
polite way of saying barbara needs to get the bug out of her ass!)

i honestly think if Bette and Bernadette were in something together that
Bernadette would smoke bette just like she does everyone else....

I can't think of one single stage characteristic that Bette has over
bernadette...
Bernadette is funnier, is a better actress, singer, has better stage
presence, you name it...

Whoa, there marc. Bernadette is not better than Bette in any way, shape, or
form. Each lady is unique in their own way. I don't think it's right for
you to judge like that seeing as how it sounds like you're not even a Bette
fan. But if you've followed both woman's work over the years like I have,
you'll see it's two totally different genres of performing, so quit with the
harsh comparison.

I hadn't heard that. It wasn't just that night though that Bette had someone
doing Barbara in her show. The night of our show she had a whole onslaught
of people doing impersonations. It was pretty funny.

Bette had those impersonators in our show too, but they showed a clip on ET
from the show, and this Barbara impersonator carried on a whole conversation
with bette that lasted a few minutes.

He didn't say anything about not being familiar with Bette's work, he just
said he liked Bernadette's better. Everyone has their own opinion, nothing
to take personally, you know what I mean?

it was certainly an opinion from what i could tell... and everyone is
entitled to their own...i never listed one single FACT in my reply...

and you saying that bernadette doesn't beat bette in any category is the
same as me saying she does...

and no, you won't find me on any bette midler lists anywhere... so if you
want to consider me biased because i think bette is fat, ugly, annoying, and
overrated so be it...

*lol* people are awful touchy on this list.... it's only my opinion...and
seeing where most of you obviously think i'm full of it anyway, it shouldn't
even matter to you...heh

*taking mental note that an equivilent to pissing in a list members wheaties
is to say bernadette is better than bette...on a bernadette list to top it
off...isn't it ironic?*

it ain't like i kicked the crap outta bette or anything...i just said that
(in my opinion) bernadette smoked her like a dead herring... sue me...

Look, you are entitled to your own opinion, you can simply say that you
don't enjoy Bette. I'm sure somewhere in the world that there are other
people like you. It is so, SO not cool though to call anyone fat or ugly,
especially someone who, from the response that this topic has gotten, is
loved by quite a few people on this list. It's cool if you think she's
overrated or annoying, go for it. But if you're going to say she's ugly or
fat, I'm sure you're no prize yourself.
Sure this is a Bernadette list. I was also under the impression though
that we could discuss her contemporaries in a fair and upbeat manner.
Bernadette is great, but you're an embarrassment to her fans everywhere when
you make comments like that.
So, what do you think about Mary Tyler Moore?

Okay...so now I'm an embarrassment to Bernadette fans...go figure

and alright, I won't say Bette is fat and ugly...I'll just pretend she isn't
like you do... Oh my god, that Bette Midler is one foxy lady...how did that
sound?... now if you'll excuse me, I need to go barf up my lunch...

And honestly...do you REALLY want to know what I think about Mary Tyler
Moore? Does my opinion really matter to you at this point? Honestly? Or are
you just looking to create another fight...? I really think the rest of the
people on this list can do without that.... Stop trying to make me look like
the bad guy here... after all it was ME and not you who was sticking up for
Bernadette and saying positive things about her in the first place... God
forbid on a Bernadette Peters mailing list to top it off...

GO ANNIE!
Bernadette IS the best, otherwise we wouldn't be here. And as a person
that has been around for longer than I care to admit, I can honestly say
that both women are amazingly talented. I don't think either women
would "smoke" each other, but rather, I think they would compliment each
other nicely. Each woman is different and amazing in her own way. And
while I do love Bette, I will always love Bernadette more!

Thank you. I'm glad someone thinks it's okay to love people other than
Bernadette.
On a different note (not that I don't want to continue talking about the
Bette Midler thing, I do, I'll take anyone on that thinks they can put Bette
down. This whole "Bette Hating" thing is seriously is like the most annoying
thing that has happened to me all week, so I'm all about discussing how good
Bette is). I heard that Bernadette is continuing through July with AGYG.
Does anyone want to confirm this. It's great news for me if she is, I'm
going to NYC in July of this year and now I'm SO excited!!!

She is back with them already. I got to see her on her first day back, which
was the 18th, I believe. I'm glad I didnt go the day before because I would
have been really upset to have missed seeing her perform. I am hoping to go
see it again before July.

Annie, you're a god-send. Thank you for sharing my opinion on this matter.
It was as if I was being ganged up on. I TOTALLY agree that people are
intitled to their own opinions, but unjust cruelty or rudeness, to bernadette
or any other performer, has never been appreciated on this list.
Nor will it ever be. It's immature and disrespectful.

Marc, no one ever bashed Bernadette so there was nothing to defend. All I
merely said was that when she performs, it's a very refined evening with the
symphony, a concert type setting. Whereas Bette puts on a spectacle type of
show. Two totally different genres, so the ladies are really uncomparable.
