See headers | This Sunday, June 6, 1999, at 8PM (WNET) & 9PM (CBS)--THE TONYS!!!!!!!!
Not only will four absolutely terrific shows performer--THE CIVIL WAR,
PARADE, PETER PAN, & ANNIE GET YOUR GUN--but also Julie will be among
the hosts/presenters, and Isabelle Stevenson, chairwoman of the American
Theatre Wing (who I interviewed), will be receiving a "lifetime
achievement" award!!!
My picks: (for musicals, as of right now)
Best Musical: PARADE or THE CIVIL WAR (Fosse can't win; It Ain't
Nothin'... is one of
THOSE shows, if you know what I mean)
Best Actress in Musical: Bernadette Peters or Carolee Carmello--how can
you choose???
Best Actor in Musical: Brent Carver--duh! Who else???
Best Score: PARADE or CIVIL WAR (Not Footloose--ugh!)
Best Scenic Design: Parade
Best Lighting Design: Fosse
Best Costumes: Fosse
Best Orchestrations: Parade
Best Choreography: Parade or Footloose
Best Direction of Musical: Parade
Best Featured Performers in Musical: Roger Bart & Kristin Chenoweth
(here I'm not sure, but I've
heard good things!!!)
As for plays, I'm not too sure: I know Death of a Saleman, as well as
Brian Denehy, will win!!! That's about all I know is probable!
Well, what are your ideas?

I guess, but he you can love Broadway and be ignorant about a lot of things
right :-) But Bernadette will win, knocking on wood of course though, don't
want to jinx it

I adore Bernadette, really... but the only reason there is no competition is
because most of the Tony voters didn't see Parade. Lucille Frank is a much
more demanding role than annie Oakley, and Carolee Carmello was utter
perfection. Personally, I'd like to see a tie... but Bernadette will win,
politics reign, and it will be wonderful but kind of bittersweet.
no i'm not insulting bernadette, don't attack me..
