Very cool! I don't care for the cast album very much,
but the play itself must be great--I've heard good
things about it. Of course, i've never seen it though.

Really? I like it a lot. It has some of the best songs I've heard, though I
do find parts slow. What don't you like about it? Just to make conversation.

Trutfully the only songs I've listened to are the
ones that Bernadette are featured on and I REALLY
REALLY LOVE "Move On"!!! But "Children and Art" bores
me a little...maybe I should listen to the rest before

"Move On" is one of my favorite songs. To be honest with you I also had
trouble getting into the CD at first. It's a little bit inaccessible at
first, especially when your ear is attuned to more "average" music. But it
really is brilliant.

Yeah, you should... the show has to be my favourite show of all-time. I
think it's pure genious and it is SO brilliant in my opinion. I have to say
my favourite parts of the show are "Color and Light" (it's so amazing the way
Sondheim put George's painting to music), "Everybody Loves Louis" (because it
shows how Dot is so torn between George and Louis), "Finishing the Hat" (it
shows George's disconnection from the world and this is a rare insight where
George realizes that he is so obsessed with his work), "We Do Not Belong
Together" and the scene leading up to it (Bernadette is AMAZING in this scene
and I think that it's one of the most amazing scene I've ever seen her do.
It expands on Dot's frustration.), "Beautiful" (I love what this song speaks
about and I love the song in general), "It's Hot Up Here" (because it shows
the tension in the painting), "Putting it Together" (because it's genious the
way it's set up), "Lesson #8" (I love the way this song builds and the way it
has the whole theme of George realizing he's alone. It's so moving), "Move
On" (Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin - two of Broadway's greatest stars
singing an amazing song... need I say more? Well, I don't NEED to, but I
will anyway! hehe... Yet again I love what this song says... I think that in
life everyone always plans ahead and thinks about what they'll be doing in
years to come and plans everything out so carefully. And this song speaks of
how, if you do that, and you plan every aspect of your life and every aspect
of everything you're going to accomplish, it like "why even do anything?"
[Sorry, if this sounds confusing to you guys... it's hard to explain]. It's
about living your life day to day and figuring out what makes you happy and
doing things because you want to do them. It's truly an amazing song.)

So, as you can tell, I thoroughly LOVE this show... I never thought I could
love anything more than "Into The Woods"... then I read this show's script,
listened to the CD, and saw the video... It's truly amazing and it's
surpassed "Into The Woods" as my favourite show.

Some of the songs I love, and some I really don't like. THat dog song just
drags on and on... I DO like "We Do Not Belong Together" (well DUH, BP at
her best...) and that one that goes "Bit by bit putting it together..."
maybe it's called Chromalume #5?
And I like the first one, and the one George thinks that I ALSO don't
remember the name of "And when the woman that you wanted goes you can say to
your self well I give what I give... But the woman who won't want for you
knows that how ever you live there's a part of you always standing by,
mapping out the sky..."

And I like it when BP sings "Hello, George. I do not wish to be remembered
like this George, with them George, my hem George three inches off the ground
and then these people and that monkey George..."

Okay, I like a lot <g>

The REALLY hard one for me to get into was Merrily We Roll Along (Sondheim,
no BP though...) But if you read the book VERY slowly backwards, and listen
to the CD the same way, it starts to make sense <g> And then it's actually a
great CD.

Yes, "Merrily" is an amazing show. I love "Our Time," "Not a Day Goes By,"
"Old Friends" and "Good Thing Going" (although I prefer the uptempo version
that The Tonics sung on the "Sondheim Celebration at Carnegie Hall" CD.) The
song "Merrily We Roll Along" is also very catchy.

I don't know, I listened to it forwards first, then backwards(actually
the opposite, when you think about it). What I mean is I listen to it
in track order first, then programmed my CD player to play the tracks
in the opposite order they were played originally. But to me, the
forward version sounded, well, backwards.
I love "Not a Day Goes By!" Did you know Jason Alexander is in
"Merrily"? And he was just on "Dilbert" as Catbert this week.

I saw this show before hearing it and the scene, "We Do Not Belong
Together" absolutly touched me, that scene still almost makes me start
crying and Bernadette is absolutly amazing in that scene. But when I got
the CD I was disappointed to hear the lack of emotion on the CD, it's still
good I'm not saying I hate it (nor am I saying that I choose to listen to
this CD constantly) all I'm saying is that she looses emotion in recording.
This show scared me at first, but I now I adore the first act and
Bernadette is amazing in this show.

Has anyone with the CD noticed that Danielle Ferland is listed as Lousie..
but in the movie, that's not her.... if anyone dosen't know this is little
red in ITW.

my opinion,

Danielle was too old by the time they did the cd. The girl that did it is
Nancy.....oops, I can't remember. Danielle also plays Fredericka in the
video of A Little Night Music.

This is another show that I've done, so I know way too much about it and I
tend to go a little crazy over it. I'll spare you all my millions of
opinions about it, but I will say that I think the end of Act I is the most
beautiful piece of music I've ever heard.

trying to show how fame and money sorta corrupted this nice guy and made him

If you know much about Sondheim, you'll know that he has often been
criticized for not writing "catchy" tunes. How interesting that you find his
music so accessible. I suppose that growing up with shows like "Into the
Woods" and "Sunday in the Park" is creating a more sophisticated audience.

By the way, I think that there have been attempts by some theatres to do
Merrily We Roll Along backwards - or forwards depending on how you look at
it. I've never seen a production like that, but I hear it's a disaster!

It wouldn't be interesting, and it would loose a lot of it's meaning if you
did it forwards... NOPE has to be backwards!

I like SUNDAY... too for the messages it sends. Sondheim does that with
most of his shows I've seen, heard, and heard of. There's always some truth
about life he slips in there. INTO THE WOODS was more entertaining, but
SUDAY has deep message, not deeper that ITW, just different. I adored the
dramatic content.

ITW was definitely more of a crowd-pleaser. Sunday left a lot of people
going, "Huh?" Interestingly enough, in both cases, it was suggested to
Sondheim during workshops that the second act should be removed.

The only version of "Sunday" with Danielle in it would be a bootleg since she
got too old for the part by the time the video was made. I don't believe
that Judi Dench was ever in it... was she? What did she play? I know that
in the London cast Philip Quast played "George" and Maria Freidman played
"Dot." Was Judi involved in that?

I am pretty easily scared(as stupid as that sounds) so don't take this as a
huge thing...When I first was exposed to this show I was flipping channels
and was completely confused by the show... the dog scene still scares me...
I'm not sure I really get it except like artist are crazy or something.
Besides that I am really in love with the show... I could lecture people
about all the meanings and stuff for hours... but anyways that's why it
scared me, plus a whole bunch of people tring to look like a painting,
being a painting... that's odd.....

sorry, if I confuse.

Sorry to get your hopes up. I found the video, but it's of the City Opera
